A lockdown only has a finite lifespan before it will erode and collapse be it social unrest or people breaking and disregarding it of their own accord. The UK lockdown even though it was compared to other countries tame has started to reach the end of its natural life. The issue as to why we have so many deaths in the UK, we are an overpopulated Island with a large ‘At risk’ population. Fat, old, male regardless of ethnicity.
Disagree - it helps de Pfeffel, and his cronies oh and his boss, Not sure it helps anyone else though The important figure really though is new cases and thats currently running at around 2K per day - its well down from the peak especially as we are testing more people so catching a higher number - though I have seen estimates the real number is still closer to 8K per day. Far higher than current rates in say Italy France or Spain for example. So we need to be cautious about relaxing the lockdown

Another stick to bray the baby boomers with - "why are the over 60's getting the vaccine first, they've already had free higher education, council houses etc, etc, ad infinitum.
Its still not the important figure relating to lockdown measures. Yes it's an important number emotionally but regarding how well the lockdown works then the number is new infections not new deaths. The people dying now we're infected 2, 3, 4 weeks ago not today so their deaths are a reflection of how many people were catching it ages ago not how many are now. To judge how successful our managing of the virus is NOW you have to look at how many new cases there are now. To put it another way a few seasons ago we were 3rd bottom on 8th November. Let's call that 22 deaths a day (as in 22nd place. The higher you are up the table the less deaths. We then released our kids only lockdown a little and signed the experienced Adam hammill. 5 games later we were bottom of the table. 24 deaths a day. Sounds like things got worse doesn't it. In reality things were picking up and the league position and deaths per day were due to our earlier poor start. We were actually only picking up 0.87 points per game before we signed him (so had an infection rate of 2.13 points per game dropped). In those 5 games since we signed him despite the death rate appearing higher we were actually improving and now only had an infection rate of 2 points per game as we were now picking up 1ppg instead of 0.87ppg. In other words the death rate is our league position which is caused by previous results. The number of new cases is our current form. Its our current form which tells you whether we look like getting out of the **** not necessarily the league table.
I agree with that but I think somewhere a distinction has to be made and I personally think that should be 65 or if they have the access to the figures 65 and retired. That isn't to mean those deaths are less important but to help to understand whether those of working age are safe to work whilst those above working age need more isolation. 60 just seems an odd cut off age as it doesn't actually apply to anything special.
I know the independent isnt renowned for its tory support but the question of why we are relaxing when the threat level is still at 4 is a fairly valid one seems to have been written out of being important for some reason "Lockdown restrictions are being lifted in England before experts are ready to cut the threat level from coronavirus transmission from “high”, No 10 has admitted. Boris Johnson had been expected to lower the alert level from 4 to 3 when he gave the go-ahead for groups of 6 to mix in gardens and parks, but failed to mention it. Now his spokesman has conceded the level remains at 4 – where transmission of the virus is said to be “high or rising exponentially” – while arguing it is “coming down from 4 to 3”. I wasn't arguing whether it was too early or not just that the rate of new infections is more relevant than the number of deaths in judging where we're at
1,768 people died of Covid over the past 7 days. 8,000 cases a day, not including hospitals or care homes.
Prof Edmunds, from the London School of Tropical Hygiene and Medicine and a member of Sage, said the levels of coronavirus were still "very high" and many scientists would rather the number of cases declined before measures were relaxed. Sir Jeremy Farrar, director of the Wellcome Trust and a member of Sage, said on Twitter that Covid-19 is "spreading too fast to lift lockdown in England" and NHS test and trace "has to be fully working and infection rates have to be lower". Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Prof Peter Horby, who sits on Sage and chairs its NERVTAG subcommittee, said the R number was still close to one and it was important we "don't lose control". He said: "Relaxing these measures does require the test, trace and isolate system to be in place and fully operational and to be operating to a level where you are capturing most cases and tracing the contacts within 48 hours."
Boris has even stopped saying they are following the science. They have given up on us just to save the career of Cummings. He knows lockdown is not enforceable after saying Cummings could do it so just relaxing it anyway and who cares about the thousands of extra deaths it will cause
I reckon they’re getting ready for locking down parts of the country, and relaxing others. Obviously Barnsley will be under lockdown... London won’t.
The strange irony being the hated Cummings wanted to lock London down and the aforementioned Edmunds didn’t want a lockdown initially as surrpession would lead to a second wave...
https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/hea...10-new-coronavirus-hotspots-yorkshire-2867871 Barnsley is currently the worst place in Yorkshire for Covid. Tens of millions of healthy people still living under restrictions because we aren't looking after those that need shielding well enough or they aren't looking after themselves as well as they should I don't know.
Skeggy is heaving today, pubs serving beer takeaways whilst folk congregate in large groups to drink it. Train companies are having to lay on extra trains to Bournemouth due to exceptionally high demand, in my area the lockdown has all but been abandoned, traffic back to normal, people mingling in the streets/houses/gardens. Only sign of anything different is the 2 metre rule still being enforced at Tesco and a queue to get in. A few face masks around but that's it really. 2,445 more infections in last 24 hours 215 further deaths All sports to resume as soon as each governing body see fit behind closed doors, it's all over bar the shouting by the looks of it
