Bit bored this afternoon, so I thought I'd do a bit of research into some of those who run our lives and make the decisions. What are they like? What are their beliefs? What qualifies them to govern our country, especially during these difficult times? I'm sure there are many good, decent members of all parties so this isn't a Tory bashing theme, it's a focus on a few of that small band who currently hold the true power. There is one interesting theme around most of them Robert Jenrick admitted to unlawfully approving a development scheme which saved a major Tory donor between 30 and 50 million pounds. He also flouted lockdown rules by driving 40 miles to his parents house to “deliver food and meds” despite the local community supporting the couple by doing exactly that. Grant Shapps On 11 May 2015, Shapps was sacked from the cabinet, On 28 November 2015, Shapps stood down as minister of state due to allegations of bullying within the Conservative Party, allegations included bullying young activist Elliot Johnson so much he committed suicide Google blacklisted 19 of Shapp’s companies after they infringed software copyrights Shapp set up a pyramid selling scheme promising returns of 20,000 dollars in 20 days-it was an e-book costing 497 dollars, telling people to recruit 100 people to do the same. He is a proven liar: In February 2015 he told LBC Radio presenter Shelagh Fogerty, "Let me get this absolutely clear ... I don't have a second job and have never had a second job while being an MP. End of story." However, in March 2015, Shapps admitted to having had a second job whilst being an MP, and practising business under the pseudonym Michael Green Priti Patel Had to settle out of court on an allegation of bullying and harassment from an employee Reduced funding support for the Palestinian territories, thus delighting Jewish groups such as the Zionist Federation Secretly met Israeli leaders in 2017 dozens of times without informing the Prime Minister Theresa May or anybody else-except one. “Boris [Johnson] knew about the visit. The point is that the Foreign Office did know about this, Boris knew about the trip” she told the Guardian newspaper. She then had to resign. Boris Johnson appointed her Home Secretary in 2019 Patel has refused multiple invitations to appear before the Home Affairs Select Committee to discuss the coronavirus situation Priti Patel is a politician with a consistent record of voting against basic human rights protections. For her to be put in charge of the Home Office is extremely concerning,” – rights group Liberty. Dominic Raab in 2007, an employee took a bullying claim against Raab to an employment tribunal, where it was settled with a compromise agreement which included monetary compensation and a confidentiality clause for both parties When Brexit secretary, Raab said that he "hadn't quite understood the full extent" of how much UK trade relies on the Dover-Calais crossing During negotiation and Theresa May’s EU proposals, Raab voted for the Irish backstop. He later said “it’s undemocratic and something that will have to be removed.” In June 2019 EU sources claimed that he had been nicknamed "The Turnip" in Brussels Michael Gove Gove was criticised at the May 2013 conference of the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT), for what they claimed was a climate of bullying, fear and intimidation during his time as Education Secretary. The conference passed a vote of no confidence in his policies. In his memoir For the Record, David Cameron described Gove during this period as "mendacious", adding: "One quality shone through, disloyalty. Disloyalty to me and, later, disloyalty to Boris [Johnson]". He co-authored Direct Democracy: An Agenda for a New Model Party(2005)The book says the NHS "fails to meet public expectations" and calls for it to be dismantled and replaced with personal health accounts. Gove is a supporter of Queens Park Rangers Interesting mix of people eh?
Im no fan of the Tories but to be honest, I would expect no less from any politician. Most of them have skeletons in the cupboard and I personally trust noone on politics. The expenses fraud proved that for me.
I'm a cynic and think they're in it for what they can get out of it. Pick any politician's name and Google them. There'll be dirt on most of them no matter what colour.
I find Patel particularly odious. Her family were accepted into this country as refugees from Idi Amin's Uganda in the 70s. I read somewhere the other day that under the new immigration rules she introduced recently, her own family would have been refused entry to the UK. Talk about hypocrisy/pulling up the drawbridge.
My great grandad was a county alderman,he had the chance to become an MP,he refused saying “when you have tasted a life of grace and favour in Westminster you can no longer help the working man”,looks like he was right, money corrupts lots of people, sadly I not got any,am Iucky or unlucky?
That’s what the likes of the above want you to think. It’s not true whilst none of them are perfect there are degrees of wrongness as the ones mentioned above are particularly odious Unfortunately most of the Tories who were not only in it for themselves got kicked out for refusing to wave Johnson’s new deal through with out any debate. Are you seriously trying to tell me there is no difference between the Patel’s and Schapps to Dominic Grieve for example or On the other side Dr Rosena Allin-Khan because if that really is your view we may as well give in.
https://www.spearswms.com/jeremy-corbyn-net-worth/ Over the years, his £4,500 salary rose to £8,000, then to £15,000. As of this year Corbyn is now earning £137,000 as his salary. He is famous for living a simple life. As he claims the position as MP, and Labour leader £74,962 and £62,440 goes into his account yearly. Together this makes over £137,000. Over 30 years, he has claimed over £3 million from the state alone. This is £1.5 million more than a normal MP. Once he retires, he’s set to earn £1.6 million pension. this is the position you are afforded as a lifelong politician
I thought the thread title was leading into a game of 'name five people you wouldn't want at your dinner party.' Hitler, Farage, Karadzic, Piers Morgan and Katy Hopkins for me.
He's right I'm afraid . https://socialistworker.co.uk/art/43037/Which current MPs voted for the Iraq War? Most are just social climbers who ll vote for anything as long as it furthers their career .
I am sorry but I cant agree - no question that those who supported the war were wrong but that does not automatically make them just as bad as Patel and Schapps - I think a fair few of those who did vote for it with the benefit of hindsight now regret it and wish they had been given correct information at the time. The 4 horsemen + 1 bonus horsewoman listed by the OP do not fit into that category. Its not as mentioned in another thread binary - you have degrees of wrong and those 5 are right at the far end of the scale
No that he the position you’re afforded as a former leader of the opposition! in your post you have quoted an MP’s salary as part of JC’s . I’m not suggesting £75k a year is a small salary; but if you want smart people, you have to compete with what their value is elsewhere. as a Dr or Lawyer, project manager what would your average MP be worth? The ones listed in the title really ought to be worth very little; but I can’t help feeling they live by different rules to you and me so even as incompetent arrogant gits they’d probably do OK.
it is a report about him claiming his salary,i was merely pointing out whats in it for a lifelong politician
