Lyle Taylor and 2 other players have told charlton boss lee bowyer they dont want to play the remaining games. Taylor doesnt want to risk injury.

Fair enough if they're out of contract.

There contracts will end 30th of june I think, the other is a loan from Burnley. Puts charlton in a bad situation there top scorer not wanting to play.

Won't their contract expire end of June though? Surely players can't dictate what games they plan in before then?

Be interesting what mindset some of the squads are in if there's mixed feelings about coming back to play. You would have to favour any team that has a group of players excited about being back on the pitch.

exactly what was predicted, hes out of contract, possibly already agreed a deal somewhere else and doesn't want to risk injury.

Not sure how he can refuse to play in June. Though I guess if he does play he will hardly be putting his best efforts into it. In any case I’m certain Charlton will not be voting to cancel the league

Isn't it something that the clubs best chance of survival is other teams players crying off scared.

And they won't be the only players taking this stance. It's ok the footballing authorities amending the rules so players can play after June 30th but they have not clarified what happens to a player who get's injured while playing out of contract.

Piss poor attitude of Taylor. No club should want to sign a guy who behaves like that.

Nailed it!! They might be able to force him onto the pitch, but they can’t make him play!!

Nobody said ‘best chance’. Like with many of the relegation/promotion fights we’ve been in over the years, this example of ‘crying off’ is no different to welcoming a couple of red cards for your rivals in their local derby.

We’d be wanting this leverage regardless of if we’re in our current position, Wigan’s, or Hull’s.

Lyle Taylor is a dripping lady's parts. I am utterly unsurprised by this.

Having witnessed his antics against us at the Valley back in Feb I can’t say I’m surprised. Self centred knob of the highest order is Lyle Taylor.....
Big blow for them though cos the lad can play.

Lyle is one of the soundest players I’ve met. He’s at an age where one injury could scupper his last big contract. I can’t fault him. I can’t fault anyone in these strange times, looking out for themselves and theirs. I also support any player doing the opposite, and playing beyond June.

Not great news for Charlton though. Or the elder players at various clubs coming back after three months out into a month-long schedule of games every few days.

Interesting end to the season. In all manner of ways.

Who would blame him. It’s his future and security he needs to consider and he will be coming into it with limited training and preparation. He won’t be the first or last and it blows the whole idea of ‘sporting integrity’ out of the window.

"Bowyer said that Taylor had told him he wants to play but that worrying about an injury affecting a move would mean he would not be the same player."

In other words he wouldn't be trying too hard in case he got injured. He's 30 years old, and will get one more lucrative contract somewhere else, so I can see his point of view.
He's looking out for himself but yes it does smack of disloyalty to his present club.
However loyalty is a non-existent commodity in football these days.

If I was asked to make the choice between risking an injury by playing a few games when I knew I was leaving, or not playing and protecting a potential 2 or 3 year deal on treble the wages I know what I'd do.
It wouldn't sit easily with me, though

Difficult one. Footballers tend to see hols starting end of season. (unless in playoffs) to end of contract. Hence June 30th.
    Back in training early July.
Which also beggars the question when does the summer window open in football. I’m guessing clubs will not be able to use any new signings to take part in this season’s. Fixtures.
Have clubs offered to extend contracts till the season closes. ? I May have missed that in the detail somewhere.

I think it’s open and honest of him to come out with this imo.
He could have played the injury card or similar or even being ill till his contract runs out .
I think he’s saying to the club yes I’ll play for you but give me a bit of loyalty back with a new contract that covers me if I get injured etc .
