The Barnsley one must be up for closure, whenever you go past, it’s rarely got more than a couple of diners. And I imagine they may be from the travel lodge.

I went once, thought it was overpriced and processed food. You could get a similar dish for half the price from the Meadows near Cortonwood.

I assume those that don't drive won't car about the job losses in that sector.

 

It is nothing to do with a lack of empathy, I was stating the reasons for the failing business at its site at stair foot.

I was merely pointing out that the writing has been on the wall for that business way before any of this started. It’s like saying the Black Bull was closed and bulldozed because of COVID. If nobody goes to the restaurant, it doesn’t make money, it doesn’t stay open.

I have every empathy with those being made redundant, but these closures were first banded about in February before lockdown.

Big parts of their businesses had stopped being viable, due to not keeping up with their competitors, and shifting tastes of the British public.

But as usual TT, your view of the world is different to mine.

 

That's a valid point but the problem is a lot of businesses who were "on the edge," will likely all be making redundancies at the same time. So getting made redundant currently is a lot worse than a year ago.

 

I wonder if knitting suppliers, model shops and DIY stores have had an upturn in trade? Be interesting if Hornby and Airfix sales have gone up.

 

Apparently shoe and clothes repairers do a massive upturn in trade during a recession. And supermarkets sell shed loads of curry sauces, easy to make Chinese food etc, as people knock restaurants and takeaways on the head.

 

Many of the restaurants that do reopen will be shut again shortly after too. They will open back up to try and make it work and find out that customers don't want to get back in to the habit of dining out, especially when such restrictive measures are in place.

 

It's a definite worry for these businesses. Speaking for myself I can't say I particularly fancy going out for drinks or a meal while the measures are in place.

 

I would have a pint in a beer garden. But I don't want to go to a restaurant or on a holiday whilst restrictions are still in place where you can't enjoy the experience the same way you have all your life. I would rather wait until these two billion vaccines get handed out mentioned on the timeline (fingers crossed they work).......
