Uni is a big learning curve, it's not just poverty that stops you experiencing things, I'd never really had any meals out so that was something new I experienced. My daughter has introduced some of her fellow dental students to the deligets of Greg's and McDonald's Even things llike having sixth form colleges wasn't known about! Plus there is the international contingent, maybe experiencing city living for the first time and of course libraries crammed full of books, newspapers, professional journals etc.
Oh, I see. A bit of an over reaction if you ask me, but thanks for letting me know, I can be "right on" now in such contexts.
Just quoting this because it saves me a job. Just have a look into All Lives Matter. It'll save everyone a job.
It's seen as being dismissive at best rather than racist (although it is another example of something all racists would say, it doesn't mean all who say it are necessarily racist, just that they are being ignorant to black people's plight). The reason why: It's obvious all lives matter. The statement 'Black Lives Matter' is short for Black Lives Matter 'too'. They feel (rightly or wrongly) that their lives are not deemed important and so the statement Black Lives Matter (too) is to say 'hey, we're people, stop killing us'. It's like the adverts to improve safety for cyclists with the 'someone's son' campaign. The point of the campaign is to make drivers realise that the person on the bike who gets knocked off and killed is a real person who has a family and to hopefully make them take more care when driving if they can relate to cyclists as people. No-one sees those adverts and says 'people in cars are someone's son too', you realise that it is to help cyclists, not to make out that people who drive cars don't have families. That is what black people are trying to do, they are saying, see us as real people with lives that matter, not that white people's lives don't matter.
Just a bit of research. For me it was as simple a cross referencing a couple of threads. It was only one of Marlons posts earlier where it clicked for me.
Thanks for this, "black lives matter too" explains the context. I've never seen the "too" suffix, just "black lives matter".
Me neither, that makes more sense and I hadn't realized ALM was a rebuke against BLM-t. Thanks Jamdrop. All you had to say Fonzie lad.
I I do, and socialists. I dont oppose myself choosing who I give my net pay money to after my tax and national insurance as been redistributed.
I would have thought that people would have done their own research. Alas I was wrong. Line drawn now anyway.
I think you’re probably a racist if you’re seeing those things and only noticing the black faces. I’ve seen quite a bit of footage and I’m not seeing ‘black looters’ but at least one poster here did
Ayr, I often learn from other peoples' mistakes. For example, at one time I never used to know how to spell 'from' but due to someone else's mistake I can now manage it!! Woo hoo!!
