I can't see us staying up, but want Wednesday to get a 12 point deduction & come down with us. Fleetwood to lose in the playoffs & us to smash them all next season in a Subbuteo tournament, shown live on Sky, as no clubs will have the money to actually field real players behind closed doors. Conway has found a nice bit of chipboard to lay a felt baize surface on. There is a massive saving on the backroom staff & groundsmen as a result.
That relegation is an utter disgrace. Make me despise the way football is with this EFL almost past caring what happens with our season
I can’t fathom it either. Wimbledon have got a point per game thus far so will get 44 points on PPG. Tranmere have got 32 from 34 at an average of 0.941 PPG. 0.941 x 44 = 41.41 PPG over a full season so are 2.59 points behind Wimbledon by my maths.
“Unfortunately, the consequence of voting on a method of ending the season retrospectively is that the minority, being those in the relegation places, will inevitably be outnumbered by those for whom the solution represents safety, or promotion. Had we been having the debate at the start of the season, I suspect that the vote would have looked very different.” https://www.tranmererovers.co.uk/news/2020/june/chairmans-statement-regarding-201920-efl-season/
I also bet had a large amount of TV revenue depended on the vote the outcome would have been different as well I hope they can bounce straight back up next season
I’ve written to the EFL requesting if it gets abandoned and worked out on points that they draft in Priti and Diane to work them out! My equivalent of Baldricks cunning plans
At the risk of provoking pitchforks and burning crosses can I just say Sunderland are not going up because they are not good enough - again. We’ll be relegated, and justifiably so, because we’re probably the worst team in the Division and certainly among the worst three. Retires to a safe distance.
I'm not sure if we will, our owners stock has fell so low I think there is more chance of our supporters taking legal action against the club Seriously though I think the season needed to be played to a finish as Coventry apart who fully deserve to go up, there is nothing between the next 7 teams and a few wins for any team could see the position change significantly. I would be saying the same if we were one of the teams in the top 6 when the game of national lockdown musical chairs finished playing and according to wihch mathematical model was used. If teams voted to end the season now because they can't afford to play games are they going to be able to afford to start a new season anyway? I think you would be right to challenge a decision taken to relegate you before the last ball is kicked and joking aside we would also be in the right to challenge how things have played out for us and more so Peterborough. Either play on or not at all, that's how I see it.
Here we again with the justifiably mantra and again to suit an opinion. Justifiably we shouldn’t have to suffer at the hands of teams who have cheated FFP. Justifiably they should have the points deductions and in at least 1 case would see a team drop perilously close to the relegation zone. Then it would have added variables in the relegation scrap including the mindset of players who thought they were heading towards playing out mid-table mediocracy, then suddenly being thrust into a relegation scrap. It’s not pitchforks or burning crosses it’s fair debate particularly when the EFL themselves bring credibility into it. If the season does play out and we stay up, please do come back and explain again why we weren’t justifiably relegated
So it seems, I have to say am surprised cos 3 - 8 were only 3 points off second, so all had a realistic expectation of automatic promotion. Perhaps most of these clubs put safety over ambition/cash, perhaps it works out cheaper for them not to play, I don’t know.
Works out cheaper not to play. Wycome and Fleetwood players will have to come off furlough to train together and play the play offs though. And presumably the clubs involved will have to pay for testing.Really if there were to be no matches I think 3rd promotion place shouldn't have been awarded.
I can see the argument with us, 7 points adrift of safety etc, but Sunderland I cant, they are 2 points off Automatic, so IMO, have a realistic claim they could have gone up. If you compare it to a long distance race, how often do you see the winner come from behind the front to win and they put it down to timing their run.
It's like something from Bruce's Play Your Cards Right. "We asked 71 football clubs if they'd like to relegate someone else. How many clubs said, yes, they'd like to relegate someone else?"
It's not straight PPG, it's weighted PPG. "Weighted PPG' is a points-per-game mechanism that is designed to remove any bias given to teams who have played more home games than their rivals up to this point. The table would use the average number of points each side has picked up per home game this season and the average number of points picked up at each away game this season. Those numbers would then be applied to each home and away game left on a team's fixture list."
i agree it definitely less expense if they dont play, thats why Grimsbys point last week was true in the short term. they can monetise the play offs. the only rational explanation for playing them seems to be they can put all 5 play off games from L1 and L2 on the telly meeting the sky sports contract. i hope the National league and north/south see sense and just promote the team in the top play off place.
