Removed from Netflix, Britbox and BBC iPlayer due to the use of blackface. Thoughts? My personal opinion is that to remove it completely is to pretend it didn’t exist. A better solution would be to add a warning to the beginning of the video that states that it was a product of the time, that it doesn’t represent the views of the BBC.
Load of ****** if you ask me. Next YouTube will be deleting chubby brown, Bernard manning, Jim Davidson n benny hill. Where does it all end eh??
Was reading this earlier. I'm not a fan of them being removed. They were of their time (albeit less than 20 years ago). I don't believe we should edit history, but should learn from it. For some of the same reasons It Aint Half Hot Mum isn't up there.
It shouldn't be deleted. Let it stay up so people can watch it, see how things have moved on and how **** comedy was when it relied on race for cheap laughs.
Think people have to get a grip. These comedies were in the past, they are/were funny. But it’s like the monuments they are wanting to get rid of, it’s History, if you get rid of History how are people supposed to learn from it? It’s like Auschwitz, it’s a reminder of the horrors of the past, So that hopefully we don’t repeat them, why get rid of History?
Do you think the statue of Edward Colston was there as a reminder of horrors of the past? Do you think there should be a statue of Hitler in the middle of Berlin?
It isnt like Auschwitz. The Jewish community wanted it to stay, so people could be continually reminded of the horrors of fascism and genocide If they had wanted it razed to the ground that would have been done. We don't have to have racist programmes just to remind us of racism. There's plenty of comedy about.
No, but there’s plenty of WW2 places to visit in Berlin, I’ve been. Jewish memorial, Tapography of terror. All Educational.
I never found Little Britain remotely funny to be honest. Not in a "woke" way, i just found it unfunny and a bit creepy. Its not like the shows have been banned, simply taken off a couple of platforms. I'm sure you can still find the show somewhere online or in DVD form. I certainly wont be looking though.
So why is Auschwitz still there? It’s there as a permanent reminder of the horrors so they can hopefully never be repeated.
Educational on the topic though. From the perspective of those who suffered. The statue of Edward Colston was a memorial to him. You can see how that’s completely different to Auschwitz or the Holocaust Museum, surely? What would be more fitting, is if the statue was now replaced with a symbol of the abolition of slavery. Around 2.5million African slaves were transported on British ships. That’s the history that people need making aware of.
