I hope the Colston plinth is left empty and a plaque installed simply to explain what was there and why it was pulled down. That way it doesn't ignore or whitewash the issue and instead forms a record of the progress that has been made.

Excellent post, I agree but we can’t just get rid of all history surely. Yes, we can make people aware, but does this involve taking down monuments, taking down buildings because they were built by slaves?

I see the difference, but they are both History, both bad. They can both be used to Educate.

I didn't find the show funny. I don't get the fuss about the pair of them or why they are so popular. Matt Lucas has his annoying baked potato song and Walliams camping it up and repeating the same few Simon Cowell 'gags' he has for years isn't funny either.

Statues yes or you could have plaques explaining there more abhorrent views/ actions, buildings no because they can be renamed and presumably serving some useful purpose.

Taking down buildings, not so sure. Not sure how easy it would be to either do that, or even prove it was built entirely by slaves.

As for statues, monuments or emblems of slave traders. Absolutely 1000% yes. I think they should all be removed, and replaced with something which comments on the oppression of slavery.

Right, but one is showcasing the horrors of what happened, the other is celebrating his life.

I agree with you in principal, but there's nothing about the statue that was presented as negative or informative.

I see no issues with the removal of the programmes. ITV don't show repeats of Love Thy Neighbour.

And we've also got the deplorable comments from the usual suspects I see.

Other than the obvious minority of dimwits in this country what is so racist about the UK? Please educate me as I'm really struggling to see it.

Oh don't get me wrong I'm not defending it at all. It was just so weird that I googled it to see whether it meant anything. To be honest even after reading what it is I'm still no wiser about why he said it (other than what you're thinking obviously)

Google a chap called Boris Johnson.

Then work your way down from there.

Boris Johnson isn't the country though. He's a person in it.
I don't think the country as a whole is racist or the country as an establishment is racist. It's just really sad that there's a sizable number of racists (to varying degrees) in the country.

I used him as an example. He's the top man in the country. The main man. People hear him talk of Letterboxes and Watermelon Smiles, and then repeat it because they think if it's ok for him it's ok for them.

    Here we go.
Explain why Jeremy Corbyn is racist without making reference to anyone who simply stands against the policies of the Israeli government.

    Agree with that.
I think it says a lot about the growing number of people who are racist when both Boris and trump get their respective jobs.
