I'll tell you what is ridiculous.

People moaning that programmes that they never watching are either removed or now carry a warning.

"HOW DARE THEY DO THIS TO COME FLY WITH ME"

"Yeah I know. When did you last watch it?"

"Not for a while actually, BUT ITS DISCUSTING"

"Well what do you think about the Black Lives Matter movement?"

    "BOOOOOO. ALL LIVES MATTER".

I love a variety of comedy, and don't believe Little Britain, Bo Selecta etc were intentionally racist. Big fan of the latter, back in the day. I still quote it to this day. It was very unique for its time. Little Britain seemed to be on a constant quest to push the boundaries of taste/decency. Catherine Tate's show was very similar, from the same era. A lot of people I know loved her show and Little Britain, they were huge hits, and I'd often wonder what they were laughing at. But comedy is subjective I suppose. I know for a fact that most folk I know wouldn't get Stewart Lee for example.

These days, if you say you're English..

As things are going it won’t be long before we see piles of books burning in our streets.

I've watched a grand total of one episode of it, at my dad's place. I had no choice. One of the worst things I've clapped eyes on.

Time to get shut of Citizen Khan and man like mobeen if we’re going this way with their own subtle prejudices, never mind the fact that they’re completely unfunny and a total waste of the television licence fee. Absolute sheite!

We love Spongebob. If anyone has a spare hour, google the hidden meanings behind most of that cartoon.

I think Citizen Khan is quite funny. Not seen the other one you mentioned.

I’d take that over shîte like Eastenders every day of the week and twice on sundays.

Attempted to watch both citizen khan and man like mobeen found both as I’ve described, humourless imho.
Thought this thread was about supposed British comedy not British ‘slit your wrists’ drama though

All about opinion but it seems today’s loose liberalist society and ethnic minority groups have succeeded in taking well-watched British comedy off our screens in the main in this instance. Never mind the removal of statues of historic figures from all over the country, nay the world.

Good or bad, they are part of our history. There was no outcry for these statues to be removed before a black criminal was man-slaughtered by American police thousands of miles away overseas.

Every man and woman involved in those protests last weekend should be fined accordingly for breaking social distancing rules and the perpetrators of vandalism likewise.

The world has gone mad. If allowed to continue in this vein, future anarchists will begin to rule eventually, that will be a lovely country to live in now won’t it?

Yes, I have now gone a bit ‘off cog’ but those supposed protesters of this country in London and elsewhere where trouble and vandalism ensued should be ashamed of their actions last weekend. This is not the way a civilised British society should behave, not at all.

There have been attempts in Bristol to either take the statue down or to do a new inscription for years. Events have undoubtedly hurried the process.

I wouldn't have the vote now if some women werent prepared to take direct action, to be in and out of prison. And a lot of men ( and women) thought it disgusting and that's what got discussed in the pub. If only women would be reasonable. Sometimes you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs.

I think people should be allowed to see for themselves and make their own minds up. I can't say that I saw anything as racist when I watched Little Britain or Bo selecta, just offensive, insensitive or provocative. Or crap when it didn't work as humour.

Agreed to an extent, however historic interventions like the suffragette movement had a far more robust argument I believe at that time than the recent removal and attempted erasing of statues from our darker history.

You have to ask why the tyrannical nature of the British rule across the world ever happened I believe in order to understand the perceived inequality of ethnic minorities in today’s society. Had those native to those countries conquered at that time, achieved their own robust state of rule, autonomy and industry before colonial rule ultimately intervened, then our historic legacy as a country I’d wager, would not have occurred as the British colonials would’ve been sent packing back to our shores.

History matters, as without it humanity cannot strive to be better.

What happened in London at the weekend was abhorrent sadly and is taking us backwards rather than forwards.

He took the mick out of a variety of celebrities, and near enough all of them actually starred with him on the show once it became a big success. I can't say I ever saw it as racist. Offensive? Definitely. It was on very late on Channel 4.

Wasn't part of the gimmick, that he sent these celebs up completely randomly? So Craig David was from Tarn and flew a kestrel. Michael Jackson was portrayed as nothing like the actual MJ. Ant n Dec, Trisha, Ozzy Osborne, Vanessa Feltz, Mel B, Davina McCall, Uri Geller, Marilyn Manson, Britney Spears. All mocked but sent up with new personalties. That was the joke.

I didn't see a racist undertone to it. But Leigh Francis has apologised for it, so what do I know?

Shame. Because his stuff since Bo selecta has been absolute garbage.

    @Hykehamtyke
Maybe the inhabitants of those countries were happy to leave the diamonds in the ground, rather than dying in their thousands to extract them. This idea that colonialism was a " good " thing is what is needed to be examined in history.

I'd agree that the random send ups such as Craig David weren't offensive. But the Trisha one wasn't random. She's the daughter of a Carribean immigrant and the "comedy" was just her being a lazy Carribean stereotype. There was no wit, humour or anything other than a simple 60s style racist caricature.
