He thought golf was a good walk spoiled, so is to be viewed with suspicion. That "fluid prejudice" quote is tosh an all. Plus he came up with a bad end for Injun Joe. Racist git.
I enjoyed it at the time, they were aiming for treble twenty, but more often than not, hit the guy walking out of the bogs doing his zip up.
Iv asked the question on facebook does little Britain and come fly with me offend black or Asian people and the resounding answer is no in fact one of my mates says he's going to miss his aunt precious, it's just another case of people making up other people's minds what's going to offend them which I think in turn is quite a racist thing to do
Fawlty Towers getting taken down now, Crikey! Need to keep a straight face these days just in case someone catches you laughing at something that later turns out is inappropriate in some way.
I suspect that is more contractual as they look to put it on Britbox with Ab Fab other stuff (also been taken off Netflix)
I read it as something to do with the Germans episode, possibly the part where Basil looks at a black doctor in surprise.
It's the bit where the major told the story of taking a woman to see India... at The Oval, and the way that scene plays out.
There's lots of stuff taken down all the time. The Inbetweeners was taken down yesterday. "I CAN'T BELIEVE THE SNOWFLAKES HAVE TAKEN IT DOWN" "Its contractual because of Britbox" "TOO LATE I'VE ALREADY SHARED IT ON FACEBOOK. DISCUSTING"
you dont need to make a programme about barry because the pro remain media and their followers have, for the past 4 or 5 years, portrayed all brexit suppoirters in this way,ie, thick, illiterate, racist, insular, little englanders, unqualified, yep, you think of an insult and it has been used
It can't be denied that Brexit got 100% of the racist vote though - why would they have voted remain? Personally I think that the removal of the comedies is an overreaction, I loved Little Britain and Come Fly With Me. I think they made fun of the people in the UK who are racist such as the W.I. woman who threw up after eating cakes made by foreigners or gays. I doubt there are many people who are offended at all.
Missed most of this thread as had to do some work that kept me fully occupied so apologies if I just repeat things already said but this has got silly now - and I fear that is the intention of some Its one thing to remove a statue commenorating a slaver Its quite another thing to go around removing loads of films and TV programs which at the time they were made were perfectly acceptable but maybe wouldnt be made in exactly the same way now and as for removing Fawlty Towers words fail - has anyone actually claimed to be offended by it apart from one person I saw on Twitter complaining it was offensive to spaniards I actually wonder if some with racist tendencies are deliberately pushing this to make the whole thing fall apart due to ridicule - and they are doing a good job if they are Even things like Little Britain - not quite sure exactly why it was banned - fat suits offensive to the nutritionally overchallenged, the wheelchair stuff offensive to those unable to walk, using a darker appearence for one Character. - As an aside I know a couple of wheelchair users who found the Lou and Andy wheelchair scenes hilarious We will be banning the Good life next for being offensive to the middle classes
I liked little Britain at the time, but when they did the set for comic relief this year I have to say I turned to the Mrs and said ‘not sure they can still get away with that!’ I appreciate they’re taking the **** out of racists etc, but I’m not sure that’s the only way it lands. we went to see Al Murray last year and I’d suggest more than half the audience didn’t understand it was irony*. A sad state of affairs, and I’m not in favour of banning either, but comedy doesn’t exist on a single level. it’s complicated. That said - when the BLM protests started I’m not sure they cared a jot about some questionable comedy; I wonder whether these decisions are made by the PC brigade or the other side to create a diversion. *I’d bet that proportion changes in different towns.
Wasn't Harry Enfield loadsamoney supposed to be ironic but you you had loads of yuppies shoutng it as a badge of honour. For me, if mothballing these shows helps towards minority groups feeling better about living their lives then there's no issue. Things are of their time, there's plenty of new comedy out there. And it's not being destroyed, just not promoted.
i had conversation with a very right wing person at work 6 months ago, he said he’d been to see Al Murray the night before and he was spot on in everything he said also that I would have have hated it..... I smiled but I couldn’t bring myself to tell him... was quite amusing though actually!
