Thanks for posting this. Bit of a shock seeing it. I was a kid of 11 living in Grimey. One of my Dad’s mates was Richard Bannister who was killed. His Wife used to cut my hair. Couple of kids as well I think. Terrible for the mining community. Terrible for those lads and their families. RIP.

 

TBH we were fighting for jobs and imo if there had been worthwhile decent life sustaining Jobs to replace them with there wouldn’t have been a strike .

How does a Labour leader gain your trust without becoming an actual Brexiteer (at which point they lose even more millions of us Remainers)?

Brexit is over, the next election will be in a post brexit world. Frankly it’s up to you whether you vote for a fairer society or more of the same. But what happened in the last 4 years around Brexit should be completely irrelevant by then.

 

That’s was the skill of Blair.
Being able to talk to different sections of society - and importantly being able to bring those sections together.
Hence the three massive landslide general election victories.
From that being able to introduce a swathe of measures such as the minimum wage.
If only the left wing of the Labour Party could understand what it takes to win power.

A democratic vote was carried out - the biggest vote in Britain’s history - there should have been no question of that vote being enacted.
Kier Starmer tried to ignore and dismiss that democratic vote.
That is very unlikely to be forgotten about by leavers or the Conservative Party at the next general election.
And yes - I know Tony Blair was in the same camp as Starmer - and as far as I’m concerned Blair lost most of his credibility in doing that.

 

Sadly I can only like this once cos i'd press it a dozen times if only some on here would read the last comment and realise that the floating voters who hold the balance to get either side in will only vote for a centrist approach, policy without power is an ashrtay on a motorbike.

Back to the original post it was terrible to hear what happened, a bit later after the disaster one of the lads who was down there that day became a landlord and sometimes spoke about it....chilling to listen to..

 

The Tories fought tooth and nail against nearly all of the Blair policies.
The Tories hated Blair.

at the next election we’ll have had 4 years in a post Brexit world! Do you and your ilk really believe that what happened 4 years ago will still be a burning issue for you?

Remember as an electrician it came up in topic of conversation for safety as i think it was a fault on the auxiliary fan in the heading.
I may be wrong.

 

That’s how I remember it, also, didn’t Arthur Scargill take up the role as the prosecution, or whatever it was called, in the inquest?

That’s what got the blame and they tried to blame the Electrician who was one of the victims and killed in the blast .
Coal Board permanently Stopped off the Seam which disabled a proper autopsy of the reasons so summised it was the fan .

 

Something to do with the fan cowl which caused the spark i think.
Feel for the electrician if he was hung out to dry.
Imagine the screams from the deputy if he isolated it and shut the heading down.
The pressure that was put on to keep the job running.

 

The Tory mp’s were split 60/40 in favour of staying within the EU.
