So like I said - completely focussed on Brexit.

Now Brexit has happened, what's going to happen in 4 years time? Brexit won't be an issue.

Yes it wasn't as simple as change leader and they would have won. But it was as simple as stick with Corbyn and definitely lose.

 

But Brexit split the Labour vote.

Just for clarity; the Tories got elected with NO simple clear policies other than to leave the EU; a stance (not even a policy) that appeals to >80% of traditional Tory voters and less than 50% of Labour voters

if Labour had been led by a populist Brexiteer they’d have alienated most of their voters and gained no Tory voters. If the same populist was a strong Remainer, they’d lose a significant number of votes but sweep up very few Tory votes to make up for it.

2018 was a Brexit election, and there’s nothing Labour could have done to win it. A different leader in 2017 might have had a chance, but it’d have just put off the inevitable Brexit fallout.

 

Simple answer was they couldn’t, not with their stance on Brexit. Kike someone said earlier, it was the Brexit Election. Lots of traditional labour areas voted for Brexit, and after 3+ yrs people were fed up with Brexit. Corbyns plan was to have another referendum on it, dragging it on another 12/18months. Didn’t they lose a lot of votes in Barnsley? Not sure on the figures mind.

If you think that, I don’t think you’ve taking notice. The ambiguities in the Labour stance were due to the party wanting remain/referendum 2 and Corbyn being pro brexit but he couldn’t say so because of policy, hence confusion which is political suicide.

i think that stance was more in line with the labour party as a whole,corbyn has always been anti eu (he didnt even want us in the common market as far as i'm aware), as much as I saw Corbyn as spineless when he became leader I honestly thought he was beholded to the likes of Starmer and feared for the future of the party had he dug his heels in.

There was no ‘confusion’, forget the party stance, come out for Leave and lose 65% of your supporters, come out for Remain and lose 35%. Sit on the fence and hope not to lose too many.

OK So it didn’t work out too well 2nd time round, but there’s no solution that gives them a ‘win’.

I'd wager Brexit was the major reason.

 

Brexit vote was 50/50 more or less, so that doesn't account for a complete landslide.
