Did a quick scroll and didn't see this posted elsewhere.

Gutted that the best music venue in Barnsley will not re-open post lock-down. It'll be a big loss to the Barnsley music scene, not many places with a permanent stage that hosts bands playing original music in town. Great sound and and a lovely intimate venue, just the right size for up and coming bands.

Feel most sorry for Marcus and Julie who put their heart and soul into the place.

Quite sad. Was there for a birthday party at the end of February or early March

Sad to hear, by no mean’s means a regular, but saw some good covers bands there. Hopefully someone will be out there looking for a live music venue to buy? Probably end up as some sort of residential dwelling/s. Shame if it does

The first of many. I think from memory the rent alone is around £500 a week...

Yeah gutting. Best venue around here. Closest is picturedrome which is probably the best. Wonder what their situation is too? Hopefully it will be kept on by someone once all this nonsence is a distant memory.

proper sad pete,i've done a few gigs there myself..

i play in a club trio at the moment and its getting to the point where at nearly every gig we comment about the age group that are watching us, in that theres hardly anyone under 50 in with many being well top side of 60...I fear for the WMC's that are left because theres no new blood coming thru to fill the empty seat and i reckon that within 10 years most of what are left will be gone like the hundreds that have shut before them

where do up and coming musicians cut their teeth now?

    its a real shame pal

edit,i say play in a trio at the moment... this is optimistic really because christ knows what will happen once this mess is over.

I was in the tap room of my local club and could hear the turn were playing a variety of numbers from people such as Buddy Holly, Elvis, T Rex and Bowie and I mentioned that they had played 12 numbers on the trot from people who were dead...just about sums club life up.

Gawber road did have a band or a singer most week ends.

So do a few places in town.

But I think the issues down to how WMCs are perceived. Stuffy places for old duffers. Playing covers of the long dead whom most the younger generation won’t have heard of doesn’t help.

club turns have to cater for who they are playing to.... i remember a time when a song was first aired at the begining of the week and by the weekend some bands were playing it..

they'd be alright doing that these days, imagine rapping in a wmc lol

When I was 14 I started going in town: I still go in town. We used to go out at 10Am for Dev opening on a Saturday then go round town. At 3 when the pubs shut we'd either find a lock-in (Vine used to do it) or sup a few cans then go back out at 7. Then to Rebecca's while 2AM. Then the law changed and we didn't have to find an alternative between 3 and 7. We used to do Sunday aft and Sunday night. Also used to go out regularly Monday, Thursday and always Friday night.
The last sesh I had before lockdown was all-dayer on the Saturday finishing up at Opium at 4:AM.
You seldom see the younger end until 10 ish and mainly then only in a handful of places (Opium being one). The last time I was in Che bar there were about 100 of them crammed into the smoking area (not really smoking or doing much talking but stood mainly hoping to catch the eye of the opposite sex). They then after a mammoth 6 hour sesh fill facebook with pics of their 'mortal' night out: probably their only one of the week.

There’s a kid who busks on the moor in Sheffield. He does loads of hip hop urban type stuff. He would draw a crowd ...

They’ll cut their teeth on Tik tok and YouTube... instruments are not very fashionable at the minute, unless you’re Ed Sheerhan.

theres plenty of agents who do showcase evenings , maybe if he had a crack at one of them he could have a go in the WMC's
