I personally would do it, and would be proud if our team did it, but wouldn't hold it against Barnsley or any other team if they didn't. Some of the comments from individuals on Twitter last night following Villa, Blades etc were a disgrace. Raab's statement is, at best, ill informed. Edit: "all lives matter" isn't racist in itself, it's just used by at best ill-informed and at worst racist people.
Each to their own, McLean gets tore a new one for not wearing a poppy, as a serviceman I dont give a fat rats ar5e, it's his choice, its everybody's choice and people shouldn't have to give reason as to why or why not. Would I drop a knee, no, but what I will do is treat everybody regardless of colour with respect until they give me a reason not too, you are either a 5hit c€;t or a good c%&t, the colour of your skin, religion etc is irrelivant
yes, if at the next game at Oakwell I would join in and 'take the knee' if there was a protocol for doing that. the next I see my West Indian neighbours would I tell them face to face that their 'Black Lives Matter' - no. How many of us would 'take the knee' at Oakwell but would not put pressure on the Football Authorities to make sure we get more black managers/ trainers in the game. How many of us would ask how many people of BAME heritage are employed by BFC and suggest that maybe there should be more? How many of us would if we went for a job interview and there was a BAME candidate for the job would make it clear that we would withdraw if this candidate was able to do the job. Do you support 'all BAME' short lists for jobs/housing/management roles etc? And the question all of us who 'take the knee' should ask ourselves is what on a day to day basis has this done for BAME people in their daily lives. Are we happy to 'take the knee' but only on our terms?
Would you really not do it in solidarity with your team mates? What exactly is your objection? Sorry, this really isnt a dig at you and you obviously have the right to choose but I'm interested to know.
RH, I dont object to anyone doing it, Racism is vile but for me I think subjects such as equality/ diversity/ inclusion should be taught to kids at schools, kids aren't born racist but are also sponges who listen to their parents ( I mean the racist parents in this case) if the teachers also Drench the kids with how to be a good human being the world may improve, it wont rid the world but it may reduce future racists, I believe taking a knee is a token gesture, yes it highlights it but for me education is the way ahead.
Would I take "a knee" in support of Black Lives Matters Global Foundation Inc, an anti capitalist organisation with strong Marxist ideals... No. Would I take one to support "Black Lives". No. The protests are not about all black lives just those deemed to be important to the hierarchy. Would I take one to show solidarity to those who suffered from historical slavery? No, I cannot be judged or held responsible for the actions of my forefathers. Especially as black on black slavery is still happening. Especially when Mahrez on a couple of hundred grand a week had a modern day slave, Filipino housemaid on a 24 hour beck and call and then refused to pay her properly for the same until she took him to a tribunal, Or for a sport that is waxing lyrical about equality yet in two years will be a massive circle jerk over the world cup. Where the stadia has been built on slave labour. It should be an individuals choice as to whether they drop to a knee or not. Or wear a shirt supporting a political movement. And that decision should be respected by both parties providing there is a mutual respect over opinions ( McClean when he isnt goading or being an arse, Matic might be the better example) The problem is twofold... No appears not to be much of an option from either the clubs and the powers that be and secondly anyone who refuses to either wear the shirt/ Take a knee would regardless of who they are suffer an online backlash by the mob that would make theirs and their families lives utter hell.
I totally agree. I know of one child who wasnt the easiest to deal with in a class, who after reading and discussing some ww2 stuff, then called out another kid for making a racist comment. On the whole children are very loving and forgiving. But every child is aware of black history month, of the concentration camps etc it is taught at school. Maybe what is missing is why people look for a scapegoat, why the need to feel superior. And looking again at the way we present our past would be a good start imo.
Agree - you don’t kneel or bow to anyone. Mi dad used to tell us that when we were kids. I think it’s demeaning to see people especially cops kneeling in front of people. Horrible.
I find it difficlt to accept that in the present day 'blacks' arnt getting a fair crack of the whip in football, particularly management/trainers.. the game is chocker block full of black people,is really as bad as 20/30/40 years ago?, i honestly dont know and this is why i'm asking.
It’s everyone’s choice, I’d not do it but that dosent mean I don’t support there fight. I wonder how many players weren’t fussed about it but did so so not to get labelled a racist?
somewhere about 40% of EPL players are BAME backgrounds, Couple this with the fact that over two thirds do not qualify for England duty i would suggest they, when the contracts are up/retire return to sunnier climes... This would reduce the talent pool somewhat. outside of this, given that anyone, including you or I, can start FA courses and develop upwards taking badges (if we have the funds) and theres based on media comments few black ex pros taking these, the question needs to be asked of them as much as anything else. If you have 100 people doing a Uefa B badge and only one is BAME then law of averages suggest youll struggle to get through the door. Is it other opportunity - punditry Is it the lack of opportunity when qualified. Is it because they have developed other interests outside of football - Eg Frimpong with his clothing range. Is it because they want to retire and go rot away in the sun Is it because they just dont want to coach or have no aptitude for it.
How many black managers are there? How does the ratio of black managers to white managers compare to the ratio of black players to white players?
Quite a few I would imagine. There is a pervasive undertone within football that black players are good for attributes such as speed, strength and stamina rather than concentration, mental agility and speed of thought. I think this transfers through into a skepticism when it comes to the idea of black players becoming coaches. It might not be openly talked about, but it's there.
i didnt ask what people imagine,i asked a straight question, how many blacks want to be managers? you cant answer because you've no idea edit,i once asked David Hirst if he fancied being a manager, his reply ewas ''no effin chance, too much aggro and too much accountability'........maybe these black lads are of the same opinion on management as hirsty?
