Depends which league we are in. Not really shone in the Championship but was great in L1.

Shame about Jared Bird he looked a prospect for a time.

Thiam bought for approx £900k - lost that. A few classic goals scored but not much else from him.
Dougall bought for ? - can't remember but lost that value as well. Looked the business until that nasty Shrewsbury injury. Never been the same since.

Agree - Mowatt and Dougall would tear up the third division again next season.

Presumably Bahre, McGeehan and Ritzmaier are all under existing contracts as he's well ahead of all of them in terms of being offered an extension imho.

    Madness releasing Dougall.

The rest I've no issue with - although does the 'retained' list include those who are simply under contract?

Wondering what Pompey will offer for McGeehan? If we can get the near million quid spent on him then I think he should be allowed to leave, whatever division we are in next season. He's made it pretty clear where he wants to be I think so goodbye and good luck Cam.

I'm surprised we've not taken the option up on Dougall, but can't say I'm hugely disappointed. If we're looking at trimming the budget, we already have Bahre, McGeehan, Ritzmaier and Mowatt all under contract, plus Wolfe and Palmer that will be on lesser wages and deserve a chance.

This may explain Palmer and Walton's inclusion on Saturday.

Patrick Cryne said the rumours of £600k upwards for Thiam were false and it was nowhere near that. Heard that wages were pretty punchy though.

I don't see how we've lost value on Dougall when he's left us after a promotion? As much as a lot of Barnsley fans rate him (me included) we've had three managers in a row not select him. It's the age old argument of looking at transfer fees for the return on investment or looking at success on the field.

Struber must want to have a look at Miller and Adeboyejo. If we go down that might be our strike force next season.

Definitely need him if we're league 1. Maybe sign better if we're championship.

Does that mean Dougall won’t be involved for the rest of the season which would be a blow.

Arent they still under contract? Personally I'd get them sold, Miller is like the invisible man for us. At least Victor has had a few games in a Barnsley shirt!!

No surprises with that retained list. Kenny Dougall, Dani Pinillos, Sammy Radlinger, Mamadou Thiam all being released, when Radlinger only had a one year contract with the other three rarely getting selected this season.

Dougall being let go could be revenue related as it's a sign of the times and with an expected 1300 free transfers coming available this summer, there will be scope to replace him easily enough.

Radlinger going makes sense so Walton doesn't have his progress stunted. Samuel is rubbish too. The least intimidating presence of any giant keeper we've ever had.

Bird it seems just couldn't cope with the hype around him that he was always down to be a big star for us.

I agree, dougall was never the same after that injury he got at Shrewsbury. He seems a lovely lad but a tad over rated by many of our fans if you ask me. Wish him all the best though.

    You would think so.

Players won't want to risk injury when they've no contract.
