Barnsley - Blackburn Rovers Stoke City - Barnsley Luton Town - Barnsley Barnsley - Wigan Athletic Leeds United - Barnsley Barnsley - Nottingham Forest Brentford FC - Barnsley 4 points from safety, 7 games to go, only won 9 all season Is there a miracle to be had?
Barnsley - Blackburn Rovers: (Win) Stoke City - Barnsley (Lose) Luton Town - Barnsley (Win) Barnsley - Wigan Athletic (Lose) Leeds United - Barnsley (Lose) Barnsley - Nottingham Forest (Draw) Brentford FC - Barnsley *(Lose) * Hopefully Brentford are already qualified for the play offs and rest a few then we may get a result at Griffin Park. Wigan are on a role, they'd got a few results before the season was stopped but they seem to have picked up where they left off. I reckon we will get another 7 points and 45 points won't be enough to stop up.
We have a poor record against Blackburn. Then three 6 pointers including Wigan who I believe are top of the 2020 form table. Followed by an away local derby against the best team in the league. A team challenging for promotion and a club who won't want to lose their last ever league home game in that ground. Draws to Blackburn and Wigan and a win against Luton. Maybe beat Brentford if they have one eye on the play offs, so five points maybe 8.
Don’t ignore the evening kick offs, it’s nearly 2 years since we won one, and in that time we’ve only managed to turn up for a couple of draws. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if we get any points from the evening kickoffs. we’ve more chance of beating Stoke than Blackburn. We needed to win today really to stand a chance of staying up.
Win against Blackburn , Draw against Forest ? I’ll be happy for a point against Blackburn an win against Forest tbh. Wigan fairly safe now so hopefully winding down against us lol. Looking like Stoke and Luton must wins and Hull to continue bad run imo .
I think we need 10 points 3 wins and a draw. One and a half points per game almost when we have managed only one point per game so far. It is a very big ask. Since the return we have stopped conceding but having watched both games against mid-table opposition, I wonder where our goals are going to come from. We are wasting Woodrow by playing him in the number 10 role (if that is what it is called). He needs to be where he can score goals.
We need to win the next 4 on the bounce looking at games remaining for me. May get summat against forest but the rest are nailed on losses imho.
Barnsley - Blackburn Rovers W 3pts Stoke City - Barnsley D 1 pt Luton Town - Barnsley W 3pts Barnsley - Wigan Athletic W 3pts Leeds United - Barnsley L 0 pts Barnsley - Nottingham Forest D 1 pt Brentford FC - Barnsley D 1 put Another 12 points to give us fifty points and a good chance of surviving.
Forest are currently 5th and Blackburn 9th (only 5 points between them but Forest have a game in hand) IMO think we'd stand a better chance of taking 3 points off Blackburn than Forest. Also, we usually fare slighty better against those teams that get the ball down and play and Tony Mowbray certainly does that with his Blackburn team. We usually come unstuck against the well organised teams that sit in, bully us and don't let us play. Anyway that's my prediction pal, hope I'm wrong . Edit: Just seen our appalling record for evening matches so you may be right lol.
We really did not help our cause today. We should have set our stall out to at least win all of our home games. Watching us today, I sadly came to the conclusion we will find it very difficult to stay in the Championship.
I wouldn't like to guess on individual games, but I reckon we'll get a couple more wins and a draw or two from the remaining games and finish on 46/47 points. This wouldn't be a bad effort after our 1 win from the first 17 games or whatever it was, but it won't be enough to stay up.
Very tough league to predict draws still have value the Luton game is huge for both teams in this instance a defeat for either team would be terminal. I would take 49 points and hope it is enough.
We strengthened in January whereas teams like Hull weakened. If that strength had been there from the off then I feel certain we'd be at least where Charlton are.
I've taken a look at the final championship table from the last 5 seasons from a relegation perspective: 2018/2019 21st Millwall 44 points 22nd Rotherham 40 points 2017/2018 21st Bolton 43 points 22nd Barnsley 41 points (Burton Albion also finished on 41 points). 2016/2017 21st Notts Forest 51 points 22nd Blackburn Rovers 51 points Forest stopped up on goal difference. 2015/2016 21st Rotherham United 49 points 22nd Charlton Athletic 40 points 2014/2015 21st Rotherham United 46 points 22nd Millwall 41 points In 4 out of the previous 5 championship seasons a team would have needed just 41 or 42 points to finish 21st and survive when compared to the points total of the 22nd placed team. The only anomaly during that period is 2016/2017 when Forest stopped up on goal difference with 51 points. Certainly think this season it could take 50 points to stay up with the 21st placed team (Hull) on 42 points with 7 matches remaining. It also shows that's there's been some really poor quality teams in this division the last few seasons (us included under Morais).
