Rules say 12 points https://www.efl.com/-more/governance/efl-rules--regulations/section-3---the-league/ rule 12.3.1
Wow! I had been wondering how they'd been affording their big signings - what was it, over 3 million for Kieffer? Something didn't add up there, and I guess they were close to the line enough for COVID to harm them. Points deduction hopefully on the way!
Is now the time well-run clubs (financially) like us are going to be rewarded for not spending beyond our means? The board have been banging the FFP, financial stability drum for a long time, almost like they knew something was coming. Does Chien have any links to Wuhan..
Be careful what you wish for is my thought too, but certain teams have been reckless financially over the years. Wouldn't be surprised if Wednesday are next.
I'm with you on this. I know Wigan have potentially been spending beyond their means, but not to the levels of a Bolton, Wolves or even Leeds. It's a sad day when any club has to go in to admin and even more so that it's likely being caused by Covid-19.
Yeah you're right actually. I was temporarily excited as it might help us survive, but there's going to be lots of clubs struggling here. Thinking about it, maybe the EFL should waive any points deductions given the circumstances
A 12 point deduction would put them 4 points from safety. With their recent form they would still have a fair chance of staying up. Although it depends how much of an effect administration has on their players and how well they've been doing.
I'm torn with it to be honest. If it takes Covid to get clubs to wake up, then maybe we need to lose some clubs for the long term health of the game. I'm not sure whether they would listen though.
No they bloody should not. They are in administration not just because of covid, but because their existing debts due to overspending left them open to this. Why should us, and Luton, Charlton even, the poor relations if you like, be subjected to the opposition not being given the right punishment for cheating with money? Wednesday, Derby and Brum should get something too. Sadly, I’m not holding my breath.
I can't remember whether penalties existed during the ITV Digital collapse fiasco, but if they did I bet they weren't waived.
To be fair, I don't think we have all the facts. If they've gone under because they've lost income due to the lockdown, that's hardly their fault. We might not be far behind, for all we know.
They've not broken any rules though, have they? Given that the very survival of lots of clubs is at risk I think the EFL needs to do everything they can to help them out. Whether that means waiving a deduction or not, I'm not sure... I bet they'll waive it though and I'm not sure I'd complain. Wednesday, Brum and co cheated the rules and therefore deserve to take the points hit - their cheating has led them to be higher up the league.
Keiffer Moore signing for them is exactly what’s wrong with FFP. They are paying him more wages with crowds on a similar level to us. Never mind the cost of buying him from us. They should be deducted this season otherwise we are being double punished!
They might appeal a points deduction on the grounds of force majeure, the unforeseen event being COVID.
I'd rather stay up by winning three of our last six. I don't think this is a welcome distraction for us either to be honest.
