I honestly think that the hierarchy of the football league runs too deep. It might come across as football snobbery but apart from the Premier League, Championship and top eight in League 1 clubs can't cope.

I'd ditch the League Cup altogether. Allow lower league clubs to play in the F.A Cup and bring back re-election and checks on stadiums.

Stadium checks are in place, you have to have a certain standard to gain entry into FL. wether it’s monitored once in, I have no clue.

For me the issue stems back to when the PL was allowed to form, the minute that was created the haves and have nots was always gonna happen.

Before the inception of Sky I can't see why a club our size never made the top flight when it was a leveller playing field.

The first division years gone by was well represented by small town clubs Huddersfield, Burnley, Blackburn, Bolton , Preston , Blackpool ,
Ipswich , with forays from Carlisle,Swindon , Oldham etc .

Sorry guys I'll rephrase it why have we only had one season in the top flight and nothing before the inception of Sky?

Well, we had this really good team, then there was a war and the chairman of Arsenal bribed other chairman to vote them promoted above us (and Tottenham incidentally who were in the last relegation spot - the start of their love of each other). Arsenal were never relegated and we fell back

We also lost out again by 0.001 of a goal at some point IIRC

We missed out again with our best side due to a late season collapse

Oh yes, and we missed the playoffs on goal difference after a 94th minute goal at Middlesborough

Were they just flash in the pan seasons that came from nothing or did the club build towards them? I know when Ipswich in 2000 and latterly Wolves in 2003 had been building towards it for a few seasons.

We were FA Cup finalists in 2 out of 3 season (1910 and 1912), and except in 1911 when we had to apply for re-election (and got our highest ever away win at Leeds City) our league position slowly improved from mid-table to 3 successive seasons in the top 6 and 3rd in 1914/15.

We were 3rd in 1922 and missed out on goal rate - 0.076 (more than I remembered), but over a season that amounts to about 4 goals

After that we slipped back and were eventually relegated in 1932 becoming a yo-yo club until WW2.

In the early 90s under Machin we dropped lucky with an in-form striker (Currie) after a few-years battling to avoid relegation.

I agree but it should be mainly up to the owner of the business to make sure they are selling it to someone who can afford to run it properly.

    Why ?
Surely that only ensures the owner gets top dollar and no thought for the club .
Think there’s a few loose clauses in that scenario.
It means a potential owner can bid for every club that comes up for sale whereas if the EFL have screened him only one check is needed , in theory if we had a effective screening body that is .
