Permanently closed. There was one positive test for the ‘Vid last week in a city of a quarter of a million people. The lockdown is destroying everything good about our country, and still we persist with it.
*The government response to* the lockdown is destroying everything good about our country. Creative Arts are one of our 3 big successful exporting industries, but the other 2 (arms and finance) are a lot more protected than Arts are. And that is without the new visa regulations that require visiting performers to pay ~£250 each (IIRC) and be able to prove they have money in the bank for 3 months previously which will hit the music industry (especially) hard from January.
The creative arts and live music industry is hanging by a thread. it really is on its last legs right now. It wasn't in a great shape before C19 but obviously right now its just getting desperate. The Nuffield itself opened up a new venue in the city centre 2 years ago which hasn't been a massive success, they still have the campus venue at the Uni too so costs were quite alarming for a regional theatre i believe.
This whole thing is beyond pointless now. There is so much mingling and brushing past people going on wherever you look so it's time to call a halt. If there are more infections to come then they will probably happen whatever we do. Society needs to be back on its feet, even if we are a bit cautious about everything. Sport, for example cricket, should be back on the agenda. There was an item on Look North last night about amateur clubs not being able to play. Why not? Can someone explain where the danger is in a couple of teams of players being on a huge field, mostly a great distance apart? Time to get on with life, whatever that might bring. Otherwise, what's the point in living at all? Que sera, sera as the saying goes.......
It's barmy that Cricket isn't allowed back so quick. Grassroots sport is going to struggle to continue. People think the warm weather is keeping cases down yet in America yesterday had Florida record their worst day ever with California in second. Those two states aren't exactly known for being cold.
Brazil is second only to the USA - not exactly known for freezing temperatures and vast glacial areas. It is possible that more contact in the UK is outside at the moment, reducing infections - compared to Florida where most is in air-conditioned offices, and other buildings.
Grassroots Cricket Clubs will be open and serving ale tomorrow with restrictions in place, the Cricket side of it should be a piece of piss to administer.
Yes but that's all they can do isn't it. Players can go in the nets and smash a few balls around and yet two teams cannot take the field together for a match. The whole thinking is just not joined up, in many areas. We are going from mass meek compliance to outright disregard and anger about the situation all over the country. People will only be treated like sheep for so long.
The way the government has totally failed to support the leisure industry is a total scandal. Not only is it good for the nations mental health it generates a huge amount of revenue and is a big boost to tourism We have somehow managed to acheive the impossible double of cocking up the lockdown so we have the worst Covid rate in Europe and hiting our economy harder than any other European nation - how the fck do you do both. And barbarian countries like France have put aside massive funds to support the Arts - just like we havent
Ah yes, square leg or deep was my favoured position as well. Tended to see a lot of the ball there. Great if you actually take the catch!
