His words not mine A Water Buffalo is a dark animal and as a black man I believe that you have dehumanised me, by associating me with a dark animal, as this was said in a derogatory manner.
I don't know whether or not it's racist. I know for a fact it's sizeist. That's discriminatory. If he led with that it's an open and shut case. Did he call him a water buffalo because they're both black? Maybe. Or maybe because, again, he was having another dig about his size. Maybe if we tried not to be prejudiced at all, rather than ranking bigotry, we might get somewhere. Homophobia isn't worse than racism isn't worse than sexism isn't worse than xenophobia isn't worse than misogyny. It's all the same.
Spot on. When I'm at work I try and stay as neutral as I can. I always say, "hello" to patients instead of good morning or good afternoon because there is always someone that takes exception and says "is it?" People will choose to be offended by anything. I just think in today's society we have that many labels but the outcome is invariably the same. I make comments classed as all of the above but aren't any of them. I think too many things are taken out of context.
I agree, Apparently he'd had a bit of a laugh with Sunderland fans poking fun at his size but he obviously feels this is something else.
The guy has been happy to be referred to as 'the beast' for a while now has he not? Mind you wev seen a few donkeys grace oakwell, black and white.
It could be better though,,,,,, a couple of weeks working down the pit and he wouldn’t even have noticed the ‘abuse’ at all. He might have even taken it as a compliment!!
More size related than any form of racism. People are using racist card now to score points I'm afraid. Although I do like him as a character quiet a funny guy
That is interesting and dated as early as February. However, he’s clearly taken offence to the comparison now so it has to be taken seriously. I would bet (hope) that this is purely down to size over race.
A lad I used to know was called Silverback because of his size. If you called a Black person a Silverback it would be classed as racist. There in lies the issue. It isn't race it's equality. If someone calls me a lovely person I should have the right to call them it back, not relent because of the colour of the persons skin.
