Why does it feel like I'm being hounded then? God forbid I stick my head above the parapet and say something different to others. I'm not going to lie, it feels seriously mentally draining. I was stating things as fact in the same way others were stating them as facts. What's the difference there? Nobody is trying to throw anybody under the bus, in my opinion, but we could have done better than the one win in 18 games that we started with. I'm sure most fans would agree with that if you took that stat/aim in silo.
Where have I absolved our owners of blame? You've completely made that up! How many times, in other threads, have I said we should have kept Pinnock at all costs, signed Sollbauer earlier, blended the number of signings with experience? I've said that so many time. It isn't fair to then accuse me of saying or thinking something different.
I always question people who have no source - it just so happens that I'm conversing with you tonight that I'm "singling" you out. I actually agree with you when you say we were poor at the start of the season. That's a fact. We won one game in 18. However, it cannot be said that the current management are doing a good job. They simply aren't.
Of course we could have done better but we could have had experienced players too. One is directly to blame for the other. You aren't being attacked but I do understand why you feel that way. If it was one person you were on dialogue you wouldn't feel that way but you've ended up with a few at the same time which can as you say feel horrible. I've been in that position many times myself and I know how it can affect you so I'll leave it there. I will say though that genuinely I wasn't attempting to attack you, just your argument
But surely based on those first 18 games supporters are allowed to say we are doing a decent job when you look at our performance since those 18 games?
We've always sold our best players that's true but what we've not done is to try and replace them with kids from inferior leagues. In the past we've always tried to replace players sold with the best we could get. We've signed the best players from other teams even if they've been from lower leagues we've tried to sign the best players last summer we didn't we just wanted numbers in and had the stupid policy they had to be under 23 it was never going to work and it hasn't.
But we're still bottom. I think it's fair to say we've been poor for 18 games. Then we've been poor for 25 more games. We haven't improved our league position. I'd love to carry this on now, but I've got to take the wife to her sisters. Have a good evening.
I'm not arguing to say the club are innocent in anything to do with our performance this season. There's massive holes everywhere you look. But I'm happy to admit and commit to thinking that some fans are being short sighted, in my opinion, in how they look at it as a whole. Granted, that will get people disagreeing, but I'm not sure it deserves the hounding I've felt tonight? Stendel wasn't great, at all, the board weren't great, at all, and Struber has left a lot to be desired. But Struber has turned our season around from where it was - in terms of points gained and being in a position to stay up - as unlikely as that seems right now
The problem we have and always will have is that we are almost always a team in transition. I do think the transfer policy is the right way to run our club but there has to be some give and take with it. There was no way we could hold onto pinnock last summer he's a fantastic player and has proved it at Brentford I've no doubt hell play in the Premier league. The problem was letting lindsay go at the same time, Davies too but that was out of our hands. People seem to be throwing selling Moore about as a big issue I don't see it, he was missing for a large part of last season and we've 2 strikers scored over 10 this season. I loved stendel what he achieved was incredible but to get this new young team up to speed in a higher league was always going to take time and we didn't have it. You only have to look at where we'd be in table since struber took over to see we'd be OK. The start totally ruined us I don't personally think that is stendels fault. Well prob come straight back up if we go down but it'll be the same boat because of how we are doing business, it will need one season of either retaining some of the better players or giving one older head a one season contract to help us stabilise. Not sure our owners will do that but we can't let ourselves get in the same boat as everyone else and overspend. Alot of you will probably disagree but I think alot of this team will come good for us, there's some good talent with potential to improve but when they have a good season in league 1 we'll sell them. It's frustrating and I'm not sure how we get to the point where we can stabilise in the championship but buying young hungry players is the right formula for us. Its not that long ago we were stuck with a team of crap older players. Maybe needs a Darren Moore type to come in the first season back in the championship to help the others. Not sure what my point really was at the end of this rant just needed to get it off my chest. I still think we'll stay up to be fair
I know it wasn’t this but spotted this Austrian professional footballer who acts as a midfielder or left-back for Barnsley
Davies - running out of contract and by all accounts refused to negotiate a new one in December 2018 Lindsay - let's not go there. But after the end of season party wasn't interested in being a Barnsley player Moore - asked to leave. Almost signed for other teams other than Wigan Pinnock - this is the big one. We should never have lost this player. Criminal So the owners in their first full season in charge sold Potts and Bradshaw, and in their second full season sold the above. Not sure I'm fully down with that being a terrible decision, but I am down with the replacement strategy not being good enough. Maybe we can tailor our wording towards that rather than pretending we dismantled a winning team?
I've thoroughly enjoyed this thread. Fans giving their views in a passionate manner. Others refuting those opinions, stating alternative & totally opposite theories just as passionately.
