In the reverse fixture, I thought Mowatt, Halme and even Wilks (all ex-Leeds) played like they had a point to prove, and at the time, the Woodrow to Leeds rumours were in full swing too. A few raised their game, that day, and we were the better team for 80 mins until tiredness cost us in the last ten. But the form book seems non existent post-lockdown. I think one hell of a motivational team talk is needed, regardless of the starting XI, and have it pointed out that we are fast running out of points to play for to save our Championship status. I’m a big fan of Mowatt, and wouldn’t drop him for this one, but have to reluctantly agree that he isn’t at his best at the moment.
.................. Walton Ludewig sollbauer Anderson Oduor ........................Halme .............. Styles Mowatt Simoes...... Woodrow....... Thomas/chaplin We need some stendelesque attacking intent. This is what we needed 3 games ago against the likes of Luton and Stoke. We needed the manager to be brave, he wasn't.
You can play as many keepers as you like, but only one can wear the gloves and legally handle the ball.
There should be no need for a motivational talk. And can you imagine a player from a Brian Clough team being picked for a following fixture if that player was seen to choose when to ‘up their game’ ??? Wouldn’t happen. If we play Mowatt, Ritzmaier or Brown (Brown as a forward or winger) we are very likely to lose. We CANNOT afford to carry any players when faced with one of the strongest teams in the division. If they do play then take special note of their contributions. Mowatts - inability to release the ball quickly. Ritzmaiers - overall lack of contribution. Brown - attacks breaking down when it gets to him. Fingers crossed - if they do play - they prove me wrong. But I doubt they will on evidence of previous matches.
Complete change of tactics required. 6 at the back, knock long balls up to Halme as the target man and scrap for seconds. Miss out the midfield and defend for your lives, throwing yourself at everything. Leeds have an off day, miss a load of chances and Reds win 0-1 with an o.g. Simples.
lets just not bother showing up - give them the 3-0 win and save us the embarrassment of being smashed live on sky
Depends on the player. John Robertson has some refuelling issues and often wasn’t up to his game but a Clough picked him because when he was he was unstoppable.
Won't happen, but I'd go 4-4-2 (or 4-4-1-1), with Walton J Williams Andersen Sollbaur B Williams Ludewig Mowatt Styles Odour Simoes Woodrow With Halme, Chaplin, Brown, Thomas and Marsh on the bench (amongst others). Though, I'd be tempted to switch Simoes for Halme, and play him sat in front of the back 4 in a 4-5-1.
Thursday night... the result will look as if the West indies opened the batting... I fear the heaviest defeat in recent times is about to be witnessed Walton will have his head in the net more times than Ena Sharples on speed...
Same team that beat Fulham 3-0 on their own patch Collins (GK), Ludewig, Sollbauer, Halme, J Williams, Mowatt, Bähre, Thomas, Woodrow, Brown, Chaplin.
The bonkers thing about this division is we are bottom of the table and it could be us that stop Leeds being champs and Brentford going up automatically. Or we could get hammered in both!
