........... it seems we have been there or there abouts now for the best part of 15 foooking years.
    7000 season tickets sold !!!
Barnsley Football Club dosen’t deserve to have sold seven season tickets.

Isn’t it about time we had a release from this purgatory and experienced a sustained period of good times at the club ???

Thought you weren't bothered about us getting relegated?

I don't think we have ever had a sustained period of good times, unless you regard, the early 80s to mid 90s as a sustained period of good times. We were in the second tier but in this period we rarely threatened the top half and more often than not we were on the fringe of the relegation battles (note I have not consulted records - it is my perception from 25 years on). Since our flirtation with the premier league we have been on what seems like a perpetual roller coaster ride. Unfortunately, mid table mediocrity in the Championship is still a little way off but I will take a roller coaster ride over mid table mediocrity in League 1 any day of the week.

I am still hopeful of avoiding our shortest ever stay in the second tier, but I am not putting my house on this.

    CORY!

Im not - I resigned myself to relegation in January - and since the restart I have been lifted by the attitudes shown by the manager and players.
But after just reading this message board most people are clearly bothered.
The fans need and deserve some respite from all this.

My perception is different to yours. We had approx 16 consecutive seasons in the 2nd Division and I can't really remember us in a relegation battle. I'm sure we were mid table with the odd flirtation with the top echelon. I may well be wrong but that's my take on it.

I know the final league position doesn't tell the whole story but here are the standings from 81/82 to 96/97:

    1981-82 6th
    1982–83 10th
    1983–84 14th
    1984–85 11th
    1985–86 12th
    1986–87 11th
    1987–88 14th
    1988–89 7th
    1989–90 19th
    1990–91 8th
    1991–92 16th
    1992–93 13th
    1993–94 18th
    1994–95 6th
    1995–96 10th
    1996–97 2nd

A mixed bag, average league position over sixteen seasons: 11th

And we avoid a one season stay. I hope it is more than a 2 season stay. lLeague 1 next season was something to avoid at all costs. Weld one Struber. Please stay with us next season.
