If you just accepted Barnsley were relegated in January ??? Cos I did. Total JOY. Total EMBARRASSMENT. You wouldn’t want me stood at the side of you in the trenches during the 1st World War. What you would need is someone like Danny Wilson, Hecky ....... or the fabulous STRUBER.
I wouldn’t say January, but I gave up way before I should’ve. Lesson learned maybe, but this is the sport we all love!
After only getting one point from the Luton, Wigan and Stoke games I was sure we were done. Happy to be proven wrong though!
Oops, yes, you're right. It wasn't what we needed though after those first three games and left us dropping back into trouble.
Crikey I was convinced we'd be going down when we went 0-3 down at home to Luton last August! I couldn't see us getting 25 points...
I think Struber would have been on the other side, Nudger, but anyway let’s celebrate and hope EFL don’t change their minds and look forward to next season, take care
You'll be able to search back and find that I said we'd get five wins, two draws, and two defeats from the last run of games. I was pretty vocal on that front. We managed four wins, three draws, and two defeats. We stayed up. It's an incredible achievement. Struber deserves all the credit that is coming to him and none of the negativity. In my opinion.
I'd resigned us to relegation long before lockdown. Before the turn of the year, we just seemed to give goals away. We weren't playing particularly bad but were always playing catch up of our own making and struggling to convert chances at the right end. Then from January, results improved but so did all the other team's around us and we couldn't get out of that bottom 3. The two defeats before lockdown leaving us 7 points from safety were a real kick in the nuts and it left us with what seemed a. Impossible task when we resumed last month. However, what has happened since the restart is truly remarkable. The stoke game aside, the performances have been professional, yet still frustrating insofar as chances not taken. BUT when the chips still seemed stacked against us, we go out and take 6 points from two of the hardest games (on paper) to save ourselves in injury time in the last day. Now, all of this rollercoaster of a season has reminded me never to give up and that football really is a funny old game. It is also the reason we all watch the game and love OUR club.
Well my predictions are usually ****. Lose to Leeds beat Forrest and Brentford. Wish I had put money on it. However my prediction at Christmas was we were down. Funny old game.
I know I voted that we would go down in one of the polls at some stage. Even last night, I watching in hope rather than expectation. Struber deserves the freedom of Barnsley. Our owners did something right in waiting to get their man. It will be an interesting pre-season.
Yes hands up I was a doubter and posted about life in league 1 (although in a positive way) could I just point out that at 90mins last night we were correct...but elated to be wtong
Said from Fulham at home, we will stay up & been saying it all season...............................................We are staying up say we are staying up, we are staying up say we are staying up.................& so on
I thought we'd be ok after the Fulham game, then after the Preston game I thought that was it for this season. After winning three in a row, I thought we'd escape then 3 games later I thought we were doomed. After winning at QPR I thought we'd a chance of sneaking out but after the Stoke debacle that was it. Drawing against Wigan confirmed my fears and even after the win over Forest it was more hope than expectation to win at Brentford. Fair play to Struber and this excellent crop of youngsters who can only get better. It's been a rollercoaster season where 4th bottom has been the goal since Stendel left. It's taken a points deduction and an unexpected last day win to achieve it but they did it #believe COYR
I watched some of the 1st Division play offs. And thought Barnsley are miles better than this. Although a team that is relegation often dosen’t play as good as what they did in the previous season - I still thought we have good enough young players to make a good season in the 1st Division. So resigned myself to relegation. I’m still trying to get my head around what happened at Brentford.
