No, I would not cash in. Possibly the best goal scoring striker I’ve seen in my time watching the reds (admittedly that’s not as many years as a lot of people on here). He got 15 goals for us this season and that would be difficult to replace in my opinion. You just have to look at our goal of the season competition to see Cauley’s impact for us this season.
Difference between us and them is they have a plan. The owner made it clear they wouldnt sell him cos he knew if he could get promoted, pay him a bigger wage by being in the Championship he would be worth double, so they always intended to sell just when they wanted. Equally he also acknowledges that Toney wants to play Championship and he cant keep him and will now have to sell him for much less than planned. As others said all clubs sell, just at different levels.
The key phrase is "to sell when they wanted". It says in that article that their valuation has been met so that's when they sell him. The response I was giving was to the poster saying that you have to let them go on their terms no matter how long their contract is. Peterborough have proved that you don't and can afford to wait until the price is right. Didn't affect Toney's performance either because he finished that League's top scorer. We don't have to sell Woodrow for at least another season unless the offer is right and not a derisory £3 million.
I would love for Cauley to stay aslong as he plays as a striker. If that isnt going to happen then possibly cash in and get someone in who can play that CAM role he has been played in and another pacy striker who can play the system Struber wants us to play
We need to stop cashing in completely.n We should only sell when we believe that we can replace with a better player to improve the football team
Agree. Callum has just been on the late night Look North News bulletin along with Clarke Oduor and they also showed the very emotional post match pitchside interview ŵith Gerhard. It's not a front, the man has truly taken Barnsley FC and its players to his heart in what could be a very potent force next season. Look North also reported that Huddersfield have indeed appointed former Leeds assistant Carlos Corberan as their new Coach. https://www.htafc.com/news/2020/july/carlos-corberan-appointed-head-coach/
We need to sell players for more than we buy players for. That's a fact. How do we do that if we don't sell?
In Darraghs own words ‘ Toney wants to play Championship football and we can’t give him that Toney agreed to stay until end of this season and review then. Peterborough were happy to do that as it was a win win for them as To yes value wouldn’t go down in meantime and if they went up he may stay and equally be worth more. Who knows what would have happened if Toney said no I want to go? We will never know but we do know Maddison forced his way out the same club this year.
Just hope if the "big 3" go (Woody, Mowatt and Brown), it isn't very late on and we get the raplacement(s) in early
In general I know we sometimes have little choice so I have no problem with cashing in provided we replace with players who are good enough to play in the league that we are in.
I'm genuinely not concerned about who is potentially sold. The caveat is that they are replaced and the team is genuinely improved by the replacements. Out of the three players mentioned I believe Woodrow would be the biggest loss A) because he's a striker and strikers are generally harder to find B) because with a foil next to him up front I think he could further improve. The board therefore HAVE to make the correct decisions here to both make sure the team is competitive next season and to reconnect with the fan base. If they simply get greedy again for greed's sake it will not augur well for the health of the club. P.s. Bad english using 'genuinely' twice in short space of time.....
Funnily enough i was thinking the same thing, he has an affinity to the club and they must have been impressed with him at their place, the longer the game went on without him making an appearance on weds led me to believe he was not being risked, hope he stays though, excellent player...
I don't get overly attached to players. I wouldn't be bothered if Mowatt left as we have Styles. I'd like another Sollbauer type player in the middle if Mowatt left. Woodrow could be replaced with Chaplin and we could sign another winger. Brown I don't rate to be honest with you. Had that chance fell to Schmidt against Brentford I think Schmidt would have seen the defender diving in and dragged it back then shot. I see a lot of effort with Brown but not much upstairs.
I think Woodrow is the most natural finisher we've had at the club in a long time, but really went off the boil in the last dozen or so games. Hopefully, it isn't because he's had his head turned. If the club has a ready-made replacement in mind that might fit better into GS's system, then although I would be sad to see him go, I could understand why the decision was made(dependant on the fee being a fair one).
