2013 was special but being in the ground helped and I will never forget the atmosphere at our last game at Huddersfield but the late winners this season against Forest and then Brentford will live with me a long time too. in 2013 I always felt that we would escape. This season, besides from the odd spike of optimism, I believed we were going down up until the 91st minute of the 46th game.
Watch again the excitement of the players after Clark Oduor scores. That does it for me... makes me smile, makes me misty eyed... pure emotion
This one was special because we looked dead and buried, and I gave us next to no hope on Wednesday. I have a slight deflating nagging feeling this time round because it wasn’t all decided on the pitch but rather because of Wigan’s demise. I understand the sentiment that Wigan don’t deserve much sympathy because of the extent of overspending but it still takes the shine off it. I also feel very sorry for the vast majority of Wigan fans over what has happened (with the exception of the obvious dickheads that we both have). If only we’d finished above Luton (I’m delighted we both survived) because I’d have felt a lot happier about it.
I enjoyed this seasons great escape better than 2013, although I must admit after our abject loss against Stoke I personally abandoned hope of staying up. I thought it might finally knock our young teams confidence, but what do I know. Looking forward to watching the play off which start on Sunday with Swansea taking on Brentford. To say we struggled for most of the season, our record against the four qualifiers for the Premiership is not bad re- Fulham 6 points, Brentford 3 points, Swansea 2 points and Cardiff 0 points. Makes you wonder how we might have done with Gerhard at the helm and Sollbauer in the team sooner.?
This one is more "Roy Of The Rovers" in the way it occurred with the injury time winners in two games. It was also the more hopeless situation of the two, on the face of it. It's tempered by the fact that we're more disjointed as a club now than we were then (in terms of disconnect between supporters and ownership) and also because we've had to experience it remotely (albeit I doubt I would have been any more ecstatic at Griffin Park as I was in the living room when Oduor scored).
This. I can see this side going on and doing sumat. It has a raw energy and excitement about it. I just hope we aren't shafted by the EFL otherwise it could be broken stunted in it's development.
I'd written us off after the Luton game. The August one, not the one a couple of weeks ago. It feels unreal that we've stayed up, we've definitely improved but once the dust settles I do worry that it'll be more of the same next season without some taking stock of out balance of youth and naeivity with experience. That said, we have players now with a season of experience, often torrid, at Championship level and hopefully that shows next season. I'm glad this one is all over though, irrespective of the outcome. What do we know?!
