That fantastic performance and result at Brentford means that we gained 24 points in our last 14 games (play-off form) and 40 points in our final 28 games, with more wins (11) than defeats (10). This is excellent form and proves that we are very worthy of staying in this division. I do not accept the argument that we are lucky, if we stay up because of another club's points deduction. Nor do I entirely accept the oft-quoted suggestion that "the league table does not lie". What it does is no more than provide us with incontrovertible statistics. It certainly does not reveal the whole truth, a part of which is the element of luck. We had a lot of bad luck early in the season. Luton Town had an astonishing amount of luck in their final game. To win a game 3-2, when you have only one shot on target all game ( a "soft" penalty at that) is almost unbelievable. The two own goals, the first in particular, were utterly farcical. Despite all the incredible good fortune which Luton enjoyed, if Blackburn's late effort, which struck the post, had actually gone in, then it would be Luton, and not the Reds, who were awaiting with great anxiety the outcome of Wigan's appeal.

Agree with most of that but if B/burn had equalised it would be Charlton not Luton waiting on Wigan’s appeal.

If Luton had drawn, they would be on 49 points, and in 21st place. We would have been in 20th position, above Luton on goal difference, and Charlton would still be in 22nd place on 48 points and destined for the drop, unless, of course, Sheffield Wednesday and/or Derby get relegated for their misdemeanours. If Luton had lost to Blackburn, then they would indeed have been behind Charlton, who would have moved up to 21st.

Plus they should've had a man sent off in the game against Hull.

Was never a pen in the Blackburn game.

I thought the penalty looked very dodgy, I must admit. I also noticed that Adam Armstrong not only didn't celebrate when he gave Blackburn the lead, but he didn't even smile. I wonder if it struck him that he had misread the script. That first own goal, when the defender, completely unchallenged, headed into his own net from about 8 yards, was astonishing. Luton had a season's worth of good luck in that match. They were lucky to draw with us too.
