Is their recruitment that much better, or they're actually just better at getting market value for their assets? I guess we'll see if / when they sell Pinnock, but I bet they'll get a lot more than £3 million quid for him. Granted he's now on a longer contract and has a year in the Championship under his belt, but he's still the same player.
Correct . Jack Butland a prime example. Stoke demanding meggabucks. From villa. No bidding war and would be lucky to get 10% of the asking price now. Given his massive drop in form. Be interesting to see what Stoke do, given I believe. His (£10m over 6 yr) contract is up in 12 months time.
You've just named two things there that make it an absolute given that Brentford will get more for him. But that shouldn't be held against us really.
Less than 24 hours after they failed to achieve promotion and Brentford are talking about flogging Watkins to Palace for £18 million plus. Ollie Watkins: Brentford forward available for at least £18m after club miss promotion https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53662774
Brentford last five seasons ..Spends and sale since 2015. 2019-20.. Spent £18,150,000.. Sales £39,000,000.. Profit £20,850,000 2018-19.. Spent £5,900,000 .. Sales £21,700,000.. Profit £15,800,000 2017-18.. Spent.. £5,530,000... Sales £10,200,000.. Profit £4,670,000 2016-17.. Spent..£4,000,000.. Sales £2,300,000... Loss £1,700,000 2015-16.. Spent.. £5,350,000.. Sales £14,800,000.. Profit £9,450,000 Looks like they have it spot on to me.. showing us and everyone else how to do it..
we could actually have fked Brentford over big time if their squad gets picked over by the 'big boys'
how many millions of that “Profit” was spent on wages. If your spending millions on players they ain’t paying em £1000 per week
I agree. But they still seem to be able to maximise incoming transfer fees within the context of their situation. The only player who we've received a true reflection of their market value for in my opinion, was Marc Roberts (and possibly Mawson). Everyone else, while sold at a profit, was well undervalued. Hourihane and Winnall - we know why. Moore - if we got closer the £4 million bandied about, then this would also seem realistic. But there are just as many rumours stating it was closer to £2.5, which would also seem to be on the light side. And as for Pinnock. Whichever way you look at it, it seems we failed to miserably to maximise his value.
Very impressive stats I agree. But it would be interesting to look at them again, once wages paid have been taken into account.
Impressive sales but yet the owner is still propping them up with injections of 12m in 2017, 18m in 2018. 2019 sale of griffin park meant he got some of the 130m he was owed back but is till owed 100million. I read on one of their forums that for every 1quid they earn the owner is putting in £2.50
I think in reality we know we can't match Brentford any time soon. I'm sure their commercial / sponsorship deals will be a lot higher being in London, but also they'll have higher costs too than being in Barnsley. The encouraging thing for me is the fact that under Struber some of the academy players have been introduced. We certainly need to get Styles on a longer deal ASAP. The experience they have from last season's campaign should be priceless this year.
We should be looking to build the team round Styles, as if he keeps developing he'll be one of the best midfielders in the league in two years time. Hopefully by then we'll be established at this level and will have a bit more clout in either being able to keep him, or get £10 million + in order to replace him.
Well if we look at 2017/18, the last recorded accounts we were both in the same division, our turnover was higher than theirs.
Fair point. I guess that's the difference of a few successful seasons, instead of being somewhat of a yo-yo team as we have been.
And the difference of doing that is an owner who pumps in 10-20m a season to enable higher wages, keeping players on longer contracts and earning more as a result in transfer fees. Football's f****d
