That Pies'r'us is tragicomic, the thread BARNSLEY WILL GO DOWN is hilarious - full of completely ill-informed legal argument, saying he is certain they would be safe based on his 70 hours of research and communications with the QC and info he has supplied to the legal team. I'd be surprised if the legal team looked at any of it, sounds like it will have been proper green ink brigade stuff. They might have humoured him for 5 minutes before chucking it all in the bin but that will be it. They really don't understand that the remit of the panel was not to decide what the rules should be, but to apply them as they exist. There was so little room for manoeuvre in that regard, they were bang to rights. Every "but what about..." argument can be very easily put to bed by just reading the regulations.
The Wigan fans partly turned on us because of the belief on many on here/Twitter that their administration was based on overspending. It wasn't. They've been "affordably overspending" for quite some time thanks to a variety of benefactors and what they've just experienced is what happens when someone turns the taps off. They were under the impression that they were a well run club. Anyway, they can renew the rivalry when AFC Choi work their way up through the Pukka Pies Northern League pyramid. Or whatever the chuff it is.
That forum is so weird. Looked on there a few times over the last couple of weeks and it doesn't seem a great forum. The response to the Barnsley fan there is pretty nasty - he was trying to be sound with them. I'd like to think the BBS would respond in a much more friendly way
I know there’s knob heads invevery fan base but the first season they played us after they came down from prem a gang of about fifteen of them were going round town picking on young uns . They picked on a father and young son also near bookies on Kendray street .
We met a group of Wigan fans in London, they were playing Gillingham in the play off final the day before we played Ipswich...they couldn't believe they had progressed that far up the leagues
It looks like a few fans have, with good intentions, have gone into full detective mode. Unfortunately, this has just added a lot of noise, when the appeal all hung on stating what the real reason was for going into administration, and whether that reason can be force majeure. So, talk about bets, dodgy takeovers, fit & proper etc... just became white noise. Their QC probably had to filter out any "evidence" that could've even been considered libellous if unproven. Wigan fans need to let the administrators crack on with their investigation into why they are in administration, and go from there. A lot of anger is being directed everywhere, The EFL, Barnsley, Choi, The Royles, probably even the Royals, and none of this will lead to any change that they want. Question is, what can be put in place, that will protect clubs from owners promising money then just pulling the plug on a whim, that will be supported by enough EFL members to vote through?
Why on earth would you go on there though? It's an effing football forum so why on earth you'd announce you were 'coming in peace' is beyond me. The responses were expected: lots of despondent angry people.
My favourite argument of theirs is that they had more points before they went into admin than we finished with. They really think that matters in some way.
Not a big part of our lives and never likely to be. I was sympathetic at first but having read some of the comments fook em, not our fault whats happened to them. No doubt they’ll still think they're a big club in 20 years time just like the Wendys, it’s over latics so deal with it.
They're a Burton Albion, Morecambe, Accrington, Macclesfield, Stevenage, Bournemouth. As a club they reached their natural ceiling. Even in the Premier League they were never going to get any bigger with Liverpool, Everton, Burnley, Manchester City, Manchester Utd on their doorstep and Blackburn and Preston in the Championship.
I agree. If we'd have gone down and they were successful in their appeal I'd have told any Wigan fan under the sun where to go if they came on here. Just not needed.
They pounced on one of my Twitter posts, which wasn't even tagged #wafc, which shows they've gone looking for it. Every response had an unnecessarily hostile tone, many were downright abusive, most with the usual dismissive instruction to go educate myself on their situation. They were blinkered by the thought that they had a special case and are totally in denial about their financial situation.
The problem is that FFP allows clubs to lose £13m pa so in many cases that's a green light to overspend. Not looked into it but I don't think Wigan were close to the £13m which is probably why they think they were well run. However, football is like any other business and if the owners can't find another buyer and can't or won't sustain perpetual losses, then administration is the only course of action.
I think it would be fair to say that not "all" Wigan AFC fans have any resentment or hatred towards their Barnsley FC counterparts. Like us, only a small proportion of their supporters use their dedicated message board. I believe we have a BBS roll of under nine hundred fans. Any bad blood will soon dissipate once the full facts are out in the open and they finally have to admit that their unfortunate demise was all down to their very irresponsible new owners who had put the Club into administration. I personally had given up on any hopes of surviving especially when they hammered Hull City 8-0, but the facts are that they failed to get sufficient points to negate the twelve point deduction and by some miracle, we beat Forest and Brentford to finish just above the relegation places. Call it justice, or an act of God, it happened and they should now put it to one side and move on.
