Or in other words - what 4 positions need strengthening?

    1)
If we are to continue to play 352 or 343 then we need another centre back.
Clearly Struber dosen’t see Halme in that role.
And even if Diaby comes good that only leaves 4 centre backs to cover 3 places.
Leaving Jordon Williams to move to wing back in a 352.

    2)
I know Mowatt is a fans favourite but IMO this position is pivotal to how the rest of the team plays and as such it needs improving.
The young players in the team would thrive if we had someone of high quality in this position.
Loan from a Premier club ?

    3)
We need a fast winger / goal scorer to replace Brown.
This would enable Brown to drop back into a wing back role where his defensive qualities coupled with his speed would be more effective.

    4)
Presumably Woodrow will leave the club - but even if he dosen’t we need a tall target man.
We greatly missed Kieffer Moore last season.

So then ......... let’s see who the club brings in - and how they relate to those playing positions.

Young Nudger in thinly veiled attack on Mowatt. Whod'a thought it.

    I never mention potential names.
It’s ridiculous to even suggest names.
As if the club doesn’t know the players that are out there.
But ..... I do think it’s interesting to discuss what positions are likely to be strengthend.

Maybe right, but Alex signing a contract extension is key - it's in Alex's hands.
For me, the objective is consolidation & keeping Alex would be a BIG help with that.

So my thoughts on your 1,2,3,4:

    1) Agree - Left footed centre back is the no.1 priority for me.

    2) Depends - hinges on Alex extending his contract. If he does go, then Dane should be looking at FIVE minimum.

    3) Disagree ... in the sense that we don't need a 'replacement' for Brown. Defence and midfield are the priorities for the season ahead to achieve the aim of consolidation. For 2021-22, I can see this could be a priority ... pacey left winger, capable of goals to give us automatic promotion.

    4) Agree - I think Cauley's brilliant, but get someone like the London Tykes to replace him & pair him up with Chaplin.

In the current team - I don’t think:
Jordan Williams is a natural centre back.
I don’t think Mowatt is good enough - he puts 100% effort in but he’s just not the quality that we need if the club is to progress.
I don’t think Brown is a winger / striker - he’s a player that always seems to be more effective when he plays deeper.

So NO - not a veiled attack on Mowatt - in actual fact suggestions on the 4 positions that can reasonably be signed to have the greatest impact.

    Go on then,I’d say
    Right back/wingback
    Left side centre half
Combative centre midfielder pref right footed
    Old fashioned number 9

Virtually every post recently you've had a go at Mowatt, who at times this season has single-handedly held the team together, particularly pre Sollbauer. Hes a two time Player of the Year, a Players' Player of the Year and has always been at or near the top of this Forum's motm league.
He's a quality player still developing who has been carrying a poor team while playing out of position a lot of the time. With better quality and a team with enhanced confidence around him I have no doubt in his ability to drive us forward.

Yes - he has been playing in a relatively poor side. And that’s why he has sometimes stood out.

But - those young players around him are starting to pass him.
For those young players to really shine they need a better conductor of the orchestra.

Agree apart from No2, a think AW has been superb for us for the last 2 years, the effort he puts in his unreal and he carried this club for a good few months when things were going tits up, he’s be there first player or approach to offer a contract extension

If we’re not going to play Halme at CB (I think we should), we need a left footed CB. Definitely at tall, strong CF (Eaves from Hull?) for Chaplin/ Woodrow to play off. An experienced midfielder to sit in front of the defence (releasing Mowatt to play further forward). I’d be happy to have Oduor & Brown as wingbacks

We have currently got a top heavy squad which needs thinning , I am currently more interested as to who we get rid of , every club will try to cut costs & getting some off the wage bill might be more of a problem than adding to it

I fully agree that Mowatts effort has always been exceptional.
He runs for the full 90 minutes.
However - take note of his general play and it’s evident that someone with greater skill in that position would set the whole team alight.

    For example:
Distribution is too slow for the players around him - he needs several touches of the ball before releasing it - often missing the chance to hit players running into space.
Chaplin and Brown both suffered badly from his slow release of the ball last season.

Dead balls are often shockingly poor.

    He can’t shoot.

He runs for 90 minutes but has no speed to beat opponents.

A large percentage of passes do not hit the target.

He sometimes dives into tackles and leaves the team exposed. Brentford goal is a prime example.

If you don’t believe me - watch reruns of the last few games and take specific note of his contribution.
And then imagine how the team would operate with a quality player in that position.
The role Mowatt fills is pivotal to how the whole team plays.
It needs improving if the club is to progress.
