    Because it’s not straightforward.
There’s massive savings to be had by encouraging staff to wfh. But you lose ‘some’* of the group spontaneity from people interacting f2f.

    * This is a total unknown loss but as we get used to wfh we are finding new ways to interact and replace those f2f relationships The jury is out.

    I hope so.

It works both ways. Companies want the best people, regardless of where they are. Most skilled professions, companies look for the best, not the cheapest.

I’ve worked for a US company, WFH, for years now. Best job I’ve ever had. I get paid a California salary and I live in Barnsley. Private healthcare, including dental. Many, many other benefits. We have no offices anywhere. We have people working in about 30 countries, I believe. Company outings twice a year, somewhere in the world. They fly everyone in. It’s fantastic.

I know I’m extremely lucky, but there is a wealth of opportunity out there and more companies becoming remote opens that up to more of us.

My earlier point was just that people being in offices isn’t the only thing keeping jobs in the UK. That’s just insane. Many companies have been switching to work from home over the last 5-10 years. They just didn’t do it all at once, because a slow change is easier for all.

No, to be honest that’s not a role that really exists at our place. Will let you know if I see anything pop up though.

Not really serious but does sound like a good work culture. I've got another year (at least) before my next move and that might be heading towards Dublin.

another one from the grifter. Can you not spot someone as an unreliable source when he’s wearing a t shirt saying I’m a grifter who lies to get your money.

By the point you get hospital admissions, and certainly once deaths start occurring after that, you've had weeks of community infection and more follow. See the steep parabolic incline of the first spike for reference.

Why do you think we haven't seen a steep rise in hospital admissions already since easing lockdown? Genuine question, I would have expected them by now.

Part of the answer is in the question, no? But of course it's not simple thing either where its just one aspect. It would certainly be useful to look at true accurate recent data to consider what might be happening out there, certainly by region. But the media don't seem very intent on sharing it now. I've only seen a few recent graphs with cases starting to increase, but little other than that to be honest.

We should be seeing a rise in deaths but we aren't. We could have more herd immunity than thought or the virus could have mutated to a weaker form like Italy said around two months ago. Speaking of Italy how great it is to see life more like it should be....

Mate, stop talking. You're really not very bright. And it hurts to hear you. It's not OK to be stupid and be continuously trying to influence people. I know you think your opinion is worth something but it really isn't. When you have no idea what you're talking about you hurt people. I get that what I'm saying isn't politically OK, but people are dying. I don't care about being politically correct anymore. I care about idiots thinking they know what they're talking about and thinking what they're saying has any relevance. It doesn't. Shut up. Stop talking when you don't understand the subject. FFS. The very lives of all our loved ones is at stake here. You can all keep thinking that each of your opinions is as valid as the next, but they're not. Listen to people with intelligence and shut your mouths. You're not just killing your loved ones, you're killing mine. Please, ******* shut up.

The board has just gone weird this morning for me and muddled up the dates of posts etc, so I've ended up reading this.

It was posted in the 1st week of August, and here we are at the end of October having the same argument with a government who's made absolutely no progress in the subsequent 10 weeks. Instead, all they've done is tighten the noose for starving kids.

Wonder where we'll be in another 10 weeks?
