We don't know that it's "speculative" or that the Crynes have behaved shoddily. It might be that the new owners didn't do sufficient due diligence regarding the land and the other party's option. We know nowt at this point.

They wouldn't have given 20% to JC for free - they would have paid 20% less than they would have if they bought the entirety of the club.

You could probably get a large Brownfield site for £8m, with less hassle, better support and incentives from the local authority.

As Simon Jordan said on TalkSport the other night - football stadiums are worthless for anything else, as the planning constraints around it and public opposition means it’s hardly worth it unless massive incentives are given.

It’s not the way for foreign investors to make a quick buck.

And let’s not forget, Cryne sold the bottom of the carpark off for building a number of years ago too.

I think the FCA and a fair few former NHS administrators would probably agree.

I would have thought rent would be payable to Oakwell Community Assets (since they own the stadium). I can’t imagine why rent would be payable to the Cryne family.

He is listed as a person with significant control who appears to have taken over Patrick's shareholding in Oakwell Holdings. He ran (and possibly still does run) the trust which PC put the ownership of the ground/club into whilst being prosecuted. As Blower controls 75% of the shares, what Oakwell Holdings does is up to him (including mounting Court action) as long as he can show he is acting in the interests of the trust's beneficiaries-who we take to be the Cryne family. As a trust involving property there may also be some argument to be made under TOLATA 1996 as regards what the settlor of the trust would have wanted.
Has some have said, we don't know what has sparked this off but either way, I bet the lawyers are smacking their lips sadly

Can someone explain why Barnsley FC Ltd is not purchasing 50% of the land back? That’s what I would have expected to happen.

The club statement implies that BFC Investment Co Ltd wants to make the purchase directly. Other than holding 80% of BFC Ltd, that company is not the football club.

Reading through the earlier posts, somebody put that they didnt think the District Registry in Manchester is the High Court. I've made applications there and believe me it is. It made me chuckle as I had some vision of the poster bursting into one of the Courtrooms and declaring "this isnt really the high Court, it's just a mickey mouse imitation". I can't think of a faster way to find out what her Majesty's porridge tastes like for a couple of days. :D

No Helen, that's not what I'm saying or implying. I feel that it is the right time in the club's history to move forward, without them. Barnsley people and supporters are thankful and grateful for the financial support to the club. We have a new ownership and business model and it would benefit them or other owners ,if they had full control.
I accept that in Black and White, it may read harsher than I wrote.
