There's going to be rises everywhere due to the number of tests being carried out' death rate is the most important thing atm' I think we'll be seeing the true extent of this "deadly virus" now .At the start ' the only people getting tested were people that were already ill with underlying issues so of course the mortality rate is going to be high' now they are testing the general public so younger generally healthier people that test positive will get over it with no issues' imo there has been no need for the mass hysteria that's been created...The last time I looked 'the rate in Barnsley was 24' that's 1 in every 4000' then baring in mind the survival rate if you do get it is estimated to be nigh on 99 percent' it makes you wonder what it's all about...

I’m not for one minute taking this lightly but how worried should an area be if the rate of positive cases is at 15 in 100,000. So for Barnsley as a borough There are c.37 cases (based on population of 245k). Is this evident because or an increase in testing? I think figures should be monitored but, for example, the Newcastle figure is more worrying as its increased 3 fold from 5 to 15 per 100,000.

    I just don’t know anymore!

Like the council keep reporting... "that's the figure up to xx date this week it way below"

They've said this on three occasions already.

Did people forget this whole thing started with a few cases and ended up taking nearly a thousand lives per day in this country alone? Yes, the rates are relatively low now, but the point is that we should strive to keep it that way before it spirals out of control again.

survival rate of 99%? i may be totally getting this wrong but if 320 000 people have tested positive in the uk and 40 000 have died from it, isn't that an approximate 88% survival rate?

Nothing to worry about for Barnsley. TBH these stats are meaningless, other than as a scare tactic.

Yes, people should be social distancing, etc, but the idea you can lock down an area is bull sh!te. People can travel for work, people can travel though from other areas, people can go to other areas. It is horse manure.

Very true. Here in Kirklees the rate has risen every week we've been in the current restrictions. Although it's Batley, Dewsbury and Cleckheaton ruining the area for Huddersfield. We are hoping our MPs succeed in trying to make the restrictions more down to postcode so areas with zero or few known Covid cases aren't treated the same as hard hit areas just because we are all under the same banner.
