He has been found guilty , if it gets overturned then he will be proven innocent , until then he remains found guilty.
Greek legal system is bizarre - or at least different to ours. They’ve accepted his appeal, that doesn’t mean they’ve found in his favour. But in accepting an appeal the conviction is overturned and his case will be heard again, in a higher court this time.
With how strongly he feels it wasn't his fault, he surely won't want to be in the England side whilst Southgate is in charge after being dropped by him instead of standing by him?
Absolutely 100% the right thing to withdraw him. Gareth Southgate has to think about the group, not the individual. Having Maguire in the squad while all this is going on would have been a nightmare, for everybody. Maguire included.
On Breakfast news this morning the BBC made a point of stressing that the conviction still stands until the retrial takes place
Isn't there a possibility that the retrial could see him convicted again and with a stronger punishment?
Southgate has previously made clear his expectations, Maguire should understand Southgate’s decision. He stood by him until found guilty and then dropped him.
Hope so... I've actually been in a Greek court to support an (ex) mate of mine who lived over there: he got 29 years. Also you get eff all in a Greek prison unless you buy it, including bed sheets.

Had a look on the Sunderland forum and they were saying police can be very heavy handed over there. Tbh, none of it makes much sense but I do know that if I thought anyone in my party had been stabbed with a syringe I'd be taking them to hospital.
