There's no such thing as a 'pc brigade'. It's just people are being more vocal about the marginalisation they're enduring.
Alternatively you could say three highly paid ex footballers from the 80's with a combined age of 175 who, other than le tissier pissing about in none league haven't played football this century haven't had their contracts renewed with sky potentially looking for more relevant presenters
Have they been sacked, or have they just not had their contracts renewed? Obviously a huge difference between the two..
Everybody gets marginalised at some point in their lives unless they're born with a silver spoon in their mouth.
Is this a new thing? Seems to be a thing in television where older presenters are replaced or just let go ... seems to be the nature of the beast unfortunately.
Always make me chuckle when people justifying equal representation for others use an insulting word to describe another group. You’re first sentence is on point though.
The optimist in me thinks that society is not worse. I grew up in the 60s and 70s. It was much worse but more accepted. I'd like to think that because we've made some progress since then the bigots stand out more. I don't think some of them are even that. They're just too lazy to think about what their knee jerk reaction is and consider whether there's a deeper issue.
It's ironic that a key target of Sky's audience is one that will slaver over the unremittingly attractive and big chested female Sports news presenters but will bairn like hell if one dares to be employed to give an actual opinion on the game.
Growing up at school we had a lad whose family originated from Pakistan, his name was Geoffrey Taylor (you couldn’t get a more English name), but everyone called him Gupta. His nickname was from a character from a BBC show (Teacher something I think). As a society, we have made huge steps forward, still a long way to go, but at least now people are willingly to call it out and it isn’t openly accepted like the above attitude was.
The warning was when you read the URL before clicking on it. With Scott Minto also sacked yesterday I don't think it's a coincidence all four are similar. I would be astounded if the likes of Alex Scott, Matt Murray or Clinton Morrison were let go. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Keith Andrews as next to go. I wouldn't be shocked to see Jeff Stelling quit after so many of his mates were fired when they were all under contract for another season....... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...y-following-sacking-long-serving-pundits.html
Thompson was just argumentative towards the end and Nicolas is just a gibbering fool, he was lucky to keep his job after his nonsensical comeback to Stelling's specsavers joke went viral. Le Tissier was ok, but not exactly irreplaceable. I didn't even realise Scott Minto worked for Sky until his departure was announced.
I couldnt care what age, sex, colour the presenters are personally. I would rather see them get people in that actually know what they are on about. I don't like this obsession that TV companies have with getting ex pros in as pundits using the idea that they played it for long enough, so they must know loads about it. Most of the ex pros that are 'pundits' are useless. I would rather give the job to people like the lads from the Not the Top 20 Pod etc. Whenever I have seen those guys on Sky Sports doing EFL sections they are brilliant. Get more like that in who have actual football knowledge not ex pros just because they are a 'big name'. Don't get me wrong, I think some of the ex pros are good pundits (G Neville, Carra etc.) but a lot of them are tripe.
