No I think they are hoping to secure some level of say in the club’s future. Whilst the fans and public have contributed to the fund they have had some big chunks donated from many ex Wigan players

In 1968, I took a job within the Public Health Department of the then Doncaster County Borough
Council ( like Barnsley, it became a Metropolitan Borough Council in 1974.)

As part of my induction, I had some training with a Senior Accountant who had total responsibility
for our departmental budgets. He impressed upon me from the get go , that I had to bear in mind that all times, the monies involved in Local Government had been generated by charging the local population annual rates on their properties and as such, it was deemed to be "public " finance.

I was made aware, that were I personally to make any ill informed or irresponsible judgement regarding the spending of said public money, by law , the "power of recharge" could be invoked and through the offices of the Chief Executive and the Borough Treasurer, I could be presented with a bill to discharge in full the amount of loss incurred as a result of any negligent or irresponsible spending decision that I might have made.

I don't know if such a mechanism already exists, but as part of the EFL's fit and proper ownership requirements, if any owner / employee blatantly and knowingly breaches FFP rules results in the Club being saddled with a debt it was unable to discharge, then notwithstanding the status of the person/persons deemed to have transgressed, by law , the power of recharge could be invoked. If nothing else, like my experience when spending any public money, it might encourage an owner/ employee to carefully think through the consequences of any penalty that could be incurred
should in the fullness of time, their fiscal irresponsibility or cheating come to light.

I presume that no fans are still claiming they’re a well-run club! I sincerely want them to survive & hope the fans are now realistic

Thing to bear in mind Donny is that the rules are made up of these Chairmen/Conglomerates.There are a few exceptions that want real change but by enlarge and especially with continuous threats of breakaways ala PL it’s a fine line .
So any rule changes/punishments etc are voted on by them .
While ever they are policing themselves any meaningful changes will either be watered down , have numerous loopholes or not be implemented imo .

At the time, I assumed they must have had some compelling grounds for appeal, for them to spend so much money on it. Turns out that the people on here who called it as a punt were right all along.

Suspect Ganaye and his consortium will end up buying the club, and they will be saved. But it will be in spite of the administrators, not because of them

Agree. I suspect they're just biding their time, waiting till they're the only show in town and can pick off the bits they want for peanuts.

I agree with your observations Marlon. I once had to attend a disciplinary hearing at the HQ of the West Riding
County FA in Leeds. It was obvious from the start, that the committee/tribunal was made up of longstanding members
i.e " the old boys network" and you sensed from the start, that they would probably never ever make any decision that could be construed as having an adverse effect on their individual or collective best interests.

I recall that the group was led by the then Secretary of Leeds United and it appeared, that the "lesser lights" drawn from Bradford City, Halifax Town and Huddersfield Town etc fawned over him and literally hung on to every observation he made. Must say, it gave me a great deal of satisfaction to have them overturn the charge and leave that meeting without any black mark against our player that we were there to defend and more importantly our Football Club.

They might have scared you with that, and hey no bad thing. However, legally your employers are vicariously liable for your F#ck ups as long as you have not engaged on "a frolic of your own". If you held any position of responsibility as a public officer and misused that power then you could be liable to prosecution for misconduct in public office. Don't worry this doesnt apply to you. The irony is that if you held an unpaid public office you could be prosecuted if you failed to act in the best interest. If you were philipp green and nicked your employees pension fund to buy your second super yacht, it doesnt apply. So knock yourself out. And before the lefties jump in.....Mandelson having a freebie on oleg darapaski's yacht and two months later as EU trade commissionaire cutting him a deal on aluminium imports to the EU. Our politicos are no better than the guys on Netfix Narcos

It helped to focus the mind I can tell you. Throughout my career I've known Senior personnel decide to " pass the
buck" and refuse to sanction a spending decision lest it backfired and they could have been accountable. Thankfully
in my working life, I never faced such a dilemma and every transaction I got involved in was above board and
    straightforward.
