He said today that he sees the Forest game as the last pre season friendly before the proper stuff starts against Luton next week.
In other words, didn't sound too bothered about the Carabao Cup. Is you in agreement?

Yeah, we are never going to win it and it just add extra congestion to an already busy schedule.

Happy for him to experiment with team and give game time to fringe players, especially if it means getting 3 points Vs Luton

‘As the past pre-season friendly’ implies putting out your chosen starting 11 to see if all your planning has worked.

Yes, use it as training exercise, would you rather beat forest or Luton?

Treating it as a friendly though implies wholesale changes at half time,as in previous friendlies. Curious way to describe a first round cup tie, maybe it was a language thing

To be fair he reckons most managers will be using these cup games as a glorified friendly and i agree with him and i won’t be losing any sleep if we get beat. After saying all that i think we’ll turn Forest over.

But clearly the cup rules won’t allow that.

It is not a friendly , it is a league cup match , therefore normal substitution rules are to be adhered to , no wholesale changes .

    Thanks RR.

He clearly states "The League Cup, The Carabao Cup" so he knows that it's a cup game. Then goes onto say "last pre season game"... I think this is a slip of the tongue, by which he means it's the last game before the League games start next week, and it's the last chance the players have got to impress before the Luton game.

In my opinion what’s the point?

I only want to see us progress through the league cup and fa cup for us to be in the hat to get a chance at that big away day. This year that isn’t possible, so for the first time since I can remember I genuinely don’t care if we progress or not.

The league is different gravy, if we sacrifice Saturday to give us the best possible change of 3 points against Luton, I’m all for it.

I have no qualms if Struber wants to try some things out in this game before the league starts.

I know it’s another cup for a team to win but do we really need 2 domestic cup competitions? Particularly this season when there’s already some fixture pile up.

Am I hallucinating or did we get to an FA Cup semi final a while back?
It seems now we believe ourselves either incapable of a good cup run or too big to take the competition seriously.

Every other season he wouldn't have been allowed to refer to it as such because doing so would put people off attending. But this year it doesn't matter and he can speak his mind.

Barnsley and the League Cup just don't get on. What's the best run they've ever been on? Such a proud history in the FA Cup but almost nothing in the League Cup, that I know of at least.

Would rather beat Luton. Forest is a good test, but performance is for once probably as important as the result. We looked good against Newcastle & need to keep the momentum from the end of last season. I think we could well win it, but I'd rather beat Luton, which will by no means be easy.

Don't forget that Forest are possibly thinking the same.

I had one of the best nights ever in watching the reds when we went to Anfield in the eighties & drew in the quarter final of the league cup . It certainly mattered to the reds fans in those days as we took 15000 fans for a mid week away match , minds you , Liverpool were a great side , probably one of the best Liverpool sides ever . On a personal note , i didn"t get in to Anfield until half time because of the fog getting there & thousands others were the same ,but it didn"t stop us celebrating a fantastic performance , brilliant night .
