I don't really follow any other teams now. I was born in Blackpool & some of my family still lived there in the 70's, so used to follow them back then. I live in Headingley & I'm pleased to see Leeds back in the Premier League for the city & many of my good mates up here, but I bloody love it when we beat them. Been a couple of seasons now though, we should have beaten them at their place, if we had someone who could put the ball in the net.
Lincoln are definitely my second team. I went to school in Lincolnshire so I used to go to Sincil Bank a lot, and loads of my mates are Imps. The atmosphere there for midweek cup games against big opposition was absolutely electric. I also have a soft spot for Luton, thanks to a very dear friend who was a Luton fanatic, and who is very sadly no longer with us. His ashes are buried in the goalmouth at Kenilworth Road. It was my plan to go to the match this season and meet up with his friends, but obviously Covid-19 scuppered that one. Really need to do it this season as I have a feeling it's their last one there before moving.
For me Glasshoughton Welfare due to son in law. Go to watch them on Saturdays if reds aren’t playing or when I haven’t traveled to away games. Royal Antwerp due to Gino and the Belgian lads and 1860 Munich because I love the city and they’re not Bayern.
Slightly different in the soft spot theme. I have always wanted small clubs so to speak to have their day in the limelight. Especially for what I call dedicated fans of the highest order. Hate it when people say clubs such as Newcastle have the best fans. Bull. No such thing. Great to see teams eg Rochdale. Tranmere. Halifax. Carlisle pushing for promotion. I’m there cheering em on in spirit. (So can’t think of any club I have a Specific soft spot for) and look for their results. I’ve taken to looking at Dundee Utd results and wish em well. purely because of Ian. And his passion (maybe a little ott as Dundee Utd are his passion. but only Ian knows) for Barnsley. If he wasn’t on this board I wouldn’t give a toss. Daft maybe. But true. I have many friends Dee dahs. Scum fans. (They’re not all full of themselves. Those that are, are just nobs) Not talking about the armchair mob. And always wish em well, if for example in a final. I genuinely wouldn’t wish the heartache of losing on em.
Looooville! That was a great team back then, a good mix of young players and solid non league league experience, 2-1 up after half an hour they were
Stevenage - purely because my dad lived there in the 70s and had a season ticket. Oxford - after a great day out at Wembley in 2016, I always look out for their results Eibar - the Spanish Barnsley Sheffield Steelers - because Ice Hockey is brilliant!
Sorry should have been more specific they share the same birthday as me. Obviously I wasn't born in 1893 but it's been a long week do so I may actually look like I was.
Barnsley are my fav wee team. Tbh from being a kid and my dad taking me to Tannadice in 67 to see us take on and beat Juventus 1-0 I decided to pick a team from each country to follow. Used to follow every month when I got my copy of world soccer. With United being regulars in European competition I chose my adopted clubs on the basis of who we drew in the UEFA cup draws. So among my teams are Juventus, Barcelona, Standard Liege, Sparta Prague.
Born in Scunthorpe and first team I saw play in the flesh (friendlies v Liverpool and Spurs around 80/81ish)
Arsenal because my dad bought me the shirt for my 7th birthday and remember thinking they were amazing winning both cups in 1993. Tottenham because my Dad bought me the shirt for my 9th birthday and they had Klinsmann and Sheringham. Hibernian again because my dad bought me the shirt off Pontefract market. Just liked the colour and look for their results and Celtic because my Grandad bought me the bedding. I had other shirts bought Liverpool and Newcastle but don't count those as it's hard not to see their results.
Porto for me. Went to a match whilst holidaying there and absolutely loved the experience, fans got to the stadium hours before the game and created a carnival atmosphere for what was just a pre season presentation match.
I don’t have any second team or particular connection with another team. I don’t have a rabid irrational loathing for any other team either.
Gonna get shot at probably, but my old man supports leeds (my grandad on mums side the reason i support barnsley), so i like to see them do well and hope they do ok in the premiership. Never stops me from giving my dad some, when we turn them over tho
For me Barnsley is that second club! I grew up supporting De Graafschap (Dutch obviously), having had season tickets during my youth for about 10 years or so together with my dad. They were pretty hard done by with the season being outright cancelled due to the pandemic, though obviously with Barnsley we've shown that it's not over 'til the fat lady sings!
