Arsenal, loved watching Charlie George play for them in the 70s, also Torquay United, used to holiday there with parents every year and we would go watch them, they used to play their early season games on a Saturday evening so after a day on the beach people could go to the game. One midweek evening we were out walking and saw a man and two lads wearing Torquay scarves stood at bus stop, we asked who they were playing, Barnsley one of the lads replied, so off we went to Plainmoor me really giddy to think I was going to see my first reds away game, upon our arrival we discovered it was a pre season game against......Burnley!!!! So even in the 70s people were confusing them with us.
I used to love football italia, integral part of the weekend. Out round town friday then whispers Up saturday, breakfast, beer, match, beer, then somewhere else for Saturday night. Up sunday, play in morning, 6 pints after, big dinner, fall into a boring italian football induced coma for 4 hours, then old postie or town. That weekly nap was vital
Dundee United-because of Arabian Ian. Celtic-as my Grandfather was at the club in the late 19th Century. Ross County, Inverness CT, Queen Of The South-due to fantastic holidays in these areas.
Tottenham, I wrote to them in 1961 for a programme for the cup semi final. They didn’t have one, but sent me one for Dukla Prague in the European Cup. I was king of the class at school with that. Dunfermline, saw a game there once. I’m pretty much OK with everyone else outside of Sheffield other than Millwall.
Inverness CT, as I lived inthat area over 12 years while in the RAF, Went to see them a good many times. Exeter City as I have relatives there. I always look out for Dundee Utd due to the Arabian Ian connection.
Celtic due to family connections (I tend to get up there to watch a match most seasons). Valencia as I collaborate with people at IATA there and I always try to take in a match when I visit.
King’s Lynn Town, my local non-league club playing for the first time this season in the top tier of non-league. I spend quite a bit of time in that London and when I’m down there I’ll go to watch Fulham, Leyton Orient or Barnet, always assuming there’s no conflict of interest.
I used to go and watch Forres Mechanics in the Highland league. Mosset park was just down the road for me.
Valencia's away shirt in the early to mid 80s was my first ever footy shirt, bizarrely. Think my folks got it me whilst we were in Salou. Absolutely loved it.
Just to let you know, I also now have a dislike for Dundee (along with Rangers X 10, Huddersfield & Millwall) and it's all your fault!
