Around 98 and 99 I worked for Leeds council and spent a year updating the social services offices. Gipton, Harehills, Osmondthorpe, Seacroft, Manningly Lane, Hunslet, Beeston, etc, etc. The roughest was Little London. BTW Harehills is 70% white European and (as Harehills & Gipton) is 7th on the list of areas in Leeds for crime. #1 is Little London & Woodhouse.
The wheels were stolen off my car in Little London, god knows what they’d have nicked if I’d slowed down!
For future reference there's an alert button for bringing threads to the attention of admin. This was Saturday night so my desire to be on the BBS monitoring children was slim to none, but if you push alert you'll make it more obvious to everyone.
Yes, I used to know the DJ who used to play in the Fforde Grene, he had some of the rarest rocksteady, bluebeat & northern soul. He went under the name Sid James, he was big buddles with Rodigan.
The city centre is nice and great for shopping eating out drinking etc, some nice places to visit around leeds but alot of the suburbs you couldnt pay me enough to live in, same with majority of big city's though sheffield same.
Yes, it's funny how the east for most cities is the most run down, there was a theory that the wealthier people sought to live on the west side, as the smog blew in an easterly direction usually. Most of the poorer parts are in the east of Leeds, although the south is quite run down too, like Belle Isle, Beeston, Hunslet, etc
I can remember an old saying my Grandmother used to say and that was nothing good ever came from the East . and if you think about it there wasn’t much west of us in years gone by anyway to be fair apart from Ireland .
Once read of a gay sauna burning down in Leeds,it was in the yorkshire evening post the fire service said it was caused by someone’s cig,it said “an unattended smouldering but in the corner of a room had caused it”,bad choice of words for a gay sauna to be fair
