Looks a decent prospect. Does this mean we're not looking at Liam Burt anymore? Seems to have gone quiet on that front.
There shouldn't be any criticism of this signing, it's exactly what we should be signing. Signing young players who've been at premier league clubs not lower leagues. He should be hungry at 22 to start playing games and it's not an issue not breaking in to Liverpool or Chelsea first team. No where better than here for him as well to progress.
Exactly. There is no risk attached to signing a young player with such a pedigree - that cost us absolutely nothing but his monthly wages. Well done to all those at Barnsley Football Club that made this happen. Excellent work.
Makes no odds to me where they come from some good players have come from non league over the years lee Tomlin, dwight Gayle, marcus maddison, vardy, marc Robert's, pinnock and that's just off the top of my head. Players who came from premier league accademys reece wabara, Getlin jones to name 2. I'll judge the lad when I see him play for us.
Similar response from my enquiry to a Liverpool supporting mate: "Honestly don't know much about him. Klopp got him from chelsea I think? I was at the villa away game in the league cup when the first team were in qatar. He started well with some nice touches but faded badly and got took off. Had a attitude problem I believe so he wouldn't last long with klopp. Good potential and only around 20 I think. Wish him well but might be a luxury player in the championship"
A guy on twitter who is mates with Gab Sutton the EFL writer posted: Good move for him. Very consistent payer who rarely has a bad game. Strong and tall too which helps him burst forward with the ball in attacking phases of play. Similarities to Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Supposed to have a superb attitude too I believe - positive move for the Tykes Seems to think he has a superb attitude and I thought that came across in the interview he did earlier.
Same here. Jacob Mellis went to Chelsea for £1m at 16 years old. Wasn't exactly a great player for us. I'll make my mind up after I've seen him play.
He's still young, maybe people read too much into his early appearances or maybe he's grown up a bit. I'm excited by the signing and he gets a clean slate as far as I'm concerned.
It's all well and good saying that this guy is a great signing. He could be but he could also be crap. Perspective after seeing him actually play for a few weeks would be better. Good luck to him. Hope he's better than everyone else!
It's an exciting one for me, don't know much about him so get to watch without any prior knowledge/expectations. Looks a big lad who can pick a pass.
His only league appearance, was as a 2nd half substitute in a defeat away to Aston Villa. Aye, we released him in January and he went back to Bradford.
Mellis's problem was never a lack of ability though. Far from it, he's an extremely talented footballer. Just that he is, by all accounts, a complete and utter bellend. A total waste of a potentially excellent career.
