Think people should read the article and what O’Neil says. He talks about having to balance books and that’s why he is been taking up experienced people on freebies because young 20 somethings cost too much. He also talks about people wage expectations being readjusted post Covid. Fair to say unlikely he is gonna pay £30k a week.
I like Brown think he’s got loads of potential but Watkins is a goal every two games player in the Championship , overpriced but that’s why he’s gone for big bucks
Yep. Huge difference between a player that probably will hit the target at every attempt - compared to a player that hopefully will hit the target. The difference is shown in the valuations. IMO Brown has insisted that he’s a forward player - I think he would have a much better career and eventually become more valuable if he thought of himself and developed his style to become an attacking wing back.
He can sometimes be frustrating (particularly with his finishing) but he runs his absolute sack off all game, he wins more headers than anyone else up there and he is often involved in some big, big goals for us. That would all be difficult to replace. I can’t see the figure being true but if it is, £2 million should be laughed away. It must be at least double that surely?
I think 2M is too low. But then if we asked ourselves, if he was at another club and we paid £2M for him right now to come to Barnsley would we we OK with that?
Great question. The supporters of the selling club are rarely happy with the fee negotiated for a departing player, and rarely are the home supporters shouting about picking up a bargain.
I think he's worth £4m+ but I can't see anyone paying it. In a post-Covid world the cash isn't flying about in the championship and I really can't see anyone bidding much more than £2m.
Good points , I wonder if the Fulham fans were in uproar when we had their pants down with Woodrow or Ipswich fans when we bought Moore . I just think that any player sale at Oakwell is met with derision from a lot of the fans , simply because it gives them a stick to beat the board with .
Alot of ipswich fans weren't happy when we bought moore they thought he should of had more of a chamce
Well no they wouldn’t have cared but because those players hadn’t been an integral part of their team. The derision here is due to us underselling our best assets for under the going rate and then having them replaced with players usually no where near ready for the level of the player they are replacing.
He wasn’t a major player for Fulham - he was on loan to other clubs for the last 2 seasons before joining us. Neither was Moore. He was out on loan at Rotherham when we bought him from Ipswich.
No two ways about it we had a huge slice of luck last season in avoiding relegation. We would have also been unlucky to go down with our post lockdown form. But who do you class as our best assets and who do you class as a player nowhere near the level? And what is the going rate? Comparisons with goalscorers like Toney and Watkins excluded. From a CB perspective it appears to have been a steady churn, but now I'm happier with both Madds and Sollbauer than I was with Lindsay. Miss Ethan though. Looking at strikers, we never replaced Moore but we replaced Bradshaw with Cauley. Hourihane replaced by Mowatt - didn't work initially at all but I believe that was the idea. I don't want Brown to leave as it's way too soon for us to have really seen the best of him but what if Frieser steps in? Simoes holds down the Number 10 and Woodrow goes up front?
I don't think much of our current regime, but it's unfair to judge them for selling a player on the cheap before they've even sold him. Wait and see what the fee is before we castigate them. But if it is as reported, then it's open season. Brown is a vital player for us.
