I don’t trust anyone because no one has reported a fee with any sort of credible evidence. The size of the fee isn’t the issue. It’s the fact that everyone is discussing a fee that we don’t know is true like it’s gospel. But for my mind “decent chunk of money” isn’t something any of the Radio Sheffield journalists would stick in for no reason so yes I’d say he’s probably indicating it’s a fairly large amount, but that is upfront he’s not meaning the entire fee and as we know lots of clubs pay in installments, so he could just be commenting on the fee being pretty top heavy instead of stretched out.
Stoke will have put him on 15k a week at least, principle’s are one thing, money is something entirely different.
That's fine not to trust anyone, as long as that includes our owners who haven't yet paid for what they profess to own. And its very simple for the club to confirm the fee is much much more than £2m, if they choose to do so of course.
The board should explain properly why, if they were 'reluctant' to sell, they did agree to sell. Simple. It's being transparent. Not that Im overly concerned myself as long as the team doesn't have its spine ripped out again.
As much as I liked watching Jacob play, I would hesitate in burdening the lad with the title of " star man". Surely Sollbauer and Woodrow would merit that title before him.? Anyway, the deal is now done. Yet again, one of our best players has been sold. Be very annoyed if the heart of the team is ripped out yet again and others follow Jacob out of the door. All we can do, is thank Jacob for his efforts on our behalf and wish him all the best for his future. Thanks Jacob.
To be fair he did actually say ‘decent chunk of money upfront’ which, I would assume, was used to suggest the club have the cash in their pocket to reinvest now without relying on instalments, not to describe the total amount of the sale.
Keeps being mentioned, that players, agents, clubs and executives all know the amount. Only ones who dont, are the fans. The very people they need to keep on side. The constant refusal for clubs (not just us) to not inform fans, causes nothing but ill feeling, debate and arguments. We could all in fact be happy and congratulate the club on the deal as it happens. I doubt it, but it could be that way.
As the owners haven’t mentioned a fee, there is nothing for me to trust. However if the club were to come out and say, we received £2 million for him, then I’d be like, yeah fair enough. But they won’t, we know they won’t, most clubs won’t confirm fees, so what I’m saying is don’t take the first thing you say as evidence, especially when it’s not exactly a trusted source and we’ve seen conflicting reports beforehand following transfers i.e Stones, Moore
I’m not bothered by this departure at all although IF the fee is 2 mill then it does seem a tad low. But, if one of our first team players had to go this window I would’ve picked Jacob over any of the rest. He’s a hugely likeable player, great with the young fans, runs his blood to water every game and played a massive part in our promotion under Stendel and I hope he succeeds wherever he goes. But he just doesn’t have enough of an end product for me to be gutted he’s gone. I feel like we can replace him easily
Or it could refer to the whole fee being paid up front, which would suggest why the fee is so small. Or it could refer to the transfer fee part and not the sell on aspect, seeing as we're well known for wanting sell on fees. Hopefully a little clarity will be forthcoming over time like with the Stones and Hourihane deals. But i suspect not.
Didn't play against Notts Forest. Think he's been on his way for a while....final product missing far too often.
It’s stupid that they never confirm any sort of fee and it leaves us guessing constantly but then again that’s how it seems to be at the minute.
One player goes and all of a sudden we are selling everybody. We have accepted peanuts. Typical Barnsley fan reactions.
It’s a fantastic bit of business by the club, he’s average at best, people saying we’ve been done, it’s Stoke who’ve been done here. This lad will be at Walsall in a few years time at best
Conway and co need to get their finger out. Still 2 more full days to rip more out of the team and give them away like lollipops. Get busy and you can get another couple sold. 2m what a absolute piss take. How anyone can be happy and defend that is completely beyond me. Pathetic beyond belief. There is absolutely no defence for that price whatsoever.
I agree. Using ‘reluctantly’ in the statement isn’t enough for the fans to believe the club aren’t just cashing in. Paying lip service won’t wash with most. If anything, it gives people more reason to voice their concerns with the current ownership. If the club weren’t planning on selling Brown this early, what has caused them to sell? If you can’t tell us then don’t bother alluding to it! We’re a selling club. This will always happen, but I do hope we’ve now stopped allowing clauses in contracts that put players in the driving seat.
