I can't see how we haven't weakened ourselves. We had Ludewig anyway, we've seemingly signed Frieser to replace Brown and we've signed a promising lad from Liverpool who could be owt. Obviously the window is open till October 5th so this may change, but as it stands we are clearly weaker.
It's been reported in the press. Both local to Stoke and a Sky journo. Far from conclusive, but a mile away from the point you were attempting to make.
Reinvested by way of one player or 5 kids who are nowhere bear first team ready? And typical Conway trying to keep info from the fans. What's he si scared of?
I've only heard one figure. Paul Conway and his mates refuse to deny that figure so I'll believe that figure. I don't trust their business skills at all and they refuse to even try to show that I should do
Good for you, I’d advise you to check out Doug O’Kane’s tweet as he’s mentioned a bit more about the fee but you believe what you wish.
So one player out, who none would describe as being an absolute shoe in this year and replaced with a lad who played in Europe last year against some big clubs, along with a lad who has a great pedigree from Chelsea and Liverpool. I'm not going to sit here and claim we are better as its impossible to say without watching them both, but then by proxy we can't say we are definitely weaker.
May i ask what you have seen from our owners to suggest that you should have blind faith in their business skills or their integrity? On the side of why I have no faith in their integrity I have the many mistruths and contradictory statements that have been made by them. I have the disgusting way in which they have treated supporters and I have the fact that they completely contradict the crynes and kept the court case from supporters until a supporter discovered it themselves. On the side of why I have no faith in their business skills I have the way that despite many searching no fans can find any actual trace of their wealth. That they stated they had the option to buy Oakwell after 6 months yet two years later were seemingly only just finding the money to do so. That they sold our main target man and didn't replace him. That they sold Ethan pinnock just in case no other bids came in. That they have had to resort to volunteers running the fanzone. That to pay for things at nice they took out a crippling loan. With all that in mind am I really out of order to lack trust in them to do well for barnsley? Remember that the only reason people are thinking it's a poor figure is because our owners have made it a club policy not to tell us the truth.
I’m assuming you haven’t read the rest of what I’ve said, I wasn’t actually commenting on the fee, I actually think the 2 million pounds that has been chucked around is low if it’s true, and I certainly haven’t made any comment on my feelings on the board, I have literally been saying that it is silly to believe one source of information without acquiring proper evidence. I generally like to be able to look at evidence and cross examine things before I believe them and at the minute there isn’t enough proof to ascertain what the fee is, but there is starting to be some evidence that’s it’s initially between 2 and 3 million pounds, but when I first typed out the post we had even less evidence of the fee than we do now and I simply said maybe we should wait for more clarification before we make a judgement. I honestly don’t care what fee you believe or your opinions on the board, I was simply making a point about the lack of evidence and how people far too often believe the first thing they read.
Agree. From Brentford official site. Ivan Toney will officially become a Brentford player tomorrow, Tuesday 1 September, joining from Sky Bet League One club Peterborough United. The highly-sought after 24-year-old will train with his new teammates today ahead of signing on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee. ONLY BARNSLEY FFS.
How are we currently clearly weaker? It may turn out that way but it’s too early to judge frieser just yet. No midfielders have left (yet) so the new kid isn’t weakening us, and Ludewig clearly isn’t weaker than Ludewig. Can say with more confidence that we’ve weakened if/when we replace Woodrow with Aitchison though.
But again that goes back to my point. Why do fans believe the information they have? Well that's because our owners have a policy of keeping the truth from us. All they have to do is announce the fee and there is no speculation, by refusing to do so each and every time they are driving supporters to believe the figured they read and if the figures they read are not as high as the actual figure then the only people to blame for that are the owners of bfc
We've replaced a bloke who had a hand in 13 of our 49 league goals with someone who may or may not be any good. He played in 42 games for us last season. A vital member of our side. Frieser has made one appearance. Can he hit the ground running? Will he need time? Is he match fit? Is he any good? We've also signed an unproven kid who may or may not be a world beater. Is he match fit? Can he hit the ground running? Will he need time? Is he any good? With the season starting 2 days away, we are clearly weaker. Obviously Ludewig is Ludewig - even I'm not that daft.
Replied to another post Tel. We may be stronger over time, but as it stands we are weaker imo. Opinions are like arseholes though, obviously.
Peterborough The club are thrilled to announce the signing of Sammie Szmodics for an undisclosed fee on a long-term contract. Bournemouth Callum Wilson has finalised his move to Newcastle United and joined the Magpies for an undisclosed fee. Need I carry on Only Barnsley FFS
We aren’t the only club that hides fees, it makes logical business sense to not announce to the world how much you’ve received/spent on players, it gives away your position to others in the transfer market. Obviously insiders will know and clubs obviously have to be aware of other clubs finances to an extent when transferring players but many clubs don’t announce fees, and those that do announce them with a set intention, like Villa announced the fee for Watkins because it was their club record fee and they want to show their fans that they’re willing to spend to stay in the league. It’s all swings and roundabouts, people believe what they want to believe that’s their right, I was simply advising not to take everything at face value and wait for more details. I would love the club to tell us everything that goes on behind the scenes, but that won’t happen, it’s never happened and honestly I think I’d get bored of it very quickly. At the end of the day if we had a great season I wouldn’t care if we found out the fees for players but you do and that’s fine.
I still don't know how you can say we're clearly weaker, when you don't know one way or another, how good the replacement for the one outgoing player so far is. We could be weaker, we could be stronger. We don't know.
I see your point. Maybe I should change my wording from "clearly weaker" to a being a "very high probably of being weaker" depending on whether Frieser is able to play to a higher standard than Brown from the first game.
It wouldn’t be the first time that a journalist has read a thread on this board and then used what we are saying as a story, might be where the 2 million comes from...
Well I think this journo probably knows more than most so would be inclined to believe him. Still don’t think it’s the right kind of deal for us to keep progressing our plan.
