Following from Shanghai Tyke's post about Reds away from home ---

Wonder how many Reds like myself were not Barnsley born and had no links to Tarn before moving here?

I'm Donny born and bred. My wife was born in Donny too, but her Mum, Dad and grandparents
were all born and up to the early 50's lived in Wombwell. I moved my family over to Wakefield
in the late 80's when I was appointed to work at YPO.

My middle son wanted to support a local team, so we tried Sheffield United, Leeds and Wednesday
twice. At that time, the latter were in the First Division so it was a pretty good standard of football.
The Reds were in the Second Division in the November of 1988 when we arrived at Oakwell.

We were meeting my cousins mate from Poole who had brought a boot full of Christmas presents
North for us and whilst we were there, decided to watch the days game against Bournemouth, a game in which the Reds triumphed 5-2 with Currie netting four times.

Because of the modest crowd you felt more comfortable and less threatened and with his Nanna and
Grandads links to Barnsley, as we left the ground my lad said " please Dad can we start supporting Barnsley " and here we are some thirty two years later, season ticket holders now taking his 12 year old son along to games as well now.

Grew up supporting my local Dutch club De Graafschap, who I still support from afar.

After moving around in The Netherlands and a brief stay in Hull we ended up in Barnsley. Once settled and building up a bit of a social life we went to watch football a few times. We took a liking to it and plunged for season tickets.

We've since moved to a Bradford postcode, but we still support Barnsley. Although we didn't renew this season because of various reasons, we will still come over occasionally once we're allowed to again. And perhaps we will pick up season tickets once more in the future.

    You Reds!

Yep I'm in BD (Saltaire). Always lived around Bradford, grew up in Clayton. I support the reds because of my dad. Me, my dad, uncle and nephew sit in the East Stand, sometimes my cousin and sister join us - proper family day out, good times!

Never lived in Barnsley, Dad from Tarn and all his rellies there so I had no choice in the matter, was borought up with a Thou shall support Barnsley mentality....went to Leeds Uni so I could go over and stay at my grandma's every week end and go to the games home and away....about a 230 mile round trip for a home game...used to come over on the train, meant a 6:30 am start (not easy with a hangover)....slept on many a station on way home from mid week away games as well........

What do you think of us out of towners coming to watch the Reds? Genuine question. Are you proud the club attracts our support year in year out or are we vermin in the mould of Barnsley Owls?

    As I say, genuine question.

I for one think it's great that we attract people from "out of town". You clearly aren't glory hunters from Bradford, otherwise you'd be dirty Leeds fans
