........ because it revealed some of the obvious weaknesses within the team. Hence Gerhard pointing some of them out after the match. The main topic being - we didn’t have players in the squad that could have changed the pattern of the game. So it’s an advantage to have these losing matches right now while the transfer window is open. It gives Gerhard, Dane and the owners time to readjust the squad. Would changes be as urgent if we had won Luton 3-0 ??? I don’t thing so.
It is in the short term. However, what YN is suggesting is that to highlight the deficiencies now, get the board to buy some players before the transfer window closes, would benefit the team long term.
Are we suggesting that our head coach does not know the strengths & weakness of our squad ? I am quite certain he will have known well before yesterday what he wants on his shopping list .
True. But if the team keeps winning - and he then goes to the owners and says something like - I want a £2 million striker and I want another two £2 million midfielders. What’s the owners likely to say ?
No I'm not saying that at all. I was suggesting that YN is saying that after a defeat to highlight the deficiencies now, get the board to buy some players before the transfer window closes, would benefit the team long term. Two totally different things
I agree with YN as his logic is easy to see. The only thing that undermines it is he is making an assumption the owners are interested in what happens on the pitch. We shall see, but so far the evidence we have doesn't strongly indicate that they do.
Who knows, until we are in a position of genuine progression & we are winning regularly then its a bit of a hypothetical question but we all hope that what ever happens the owners back the HC
My tongue was firmly in cheek with my reply. But in all seriousness, I’m not sure what difference it will make. Do you think we’ll be announcing Whiteman or Kulenovic this week, or even in this window? If Dykes was still at Livingstone, we wouldn’t be going in with the asking price now.
So negative!!! If we are near the bottom of the Championship the value of the players decrease. If we are relegated the value of the players drops through the floor. The reverse happens if the club is near the top of the league or promoted. Plus I believe the owners have a genuine desire to see the club and town do well. Does anyone really think these owners have no interest in what happens on the field ???
The true judgement of our competing arguements will come soon enough. They sold a forward player with a high number of assists and statically won a lot of headers. If they got less than two million upfront they are idiots. Let's see if we sign a two million forward before the window closes. We both know that ain't happening.
I agree. We beat Fulham last year and the rose tinted spectacles were on. Best to highlight issues now whilst the window is open and the players are available, so to speak. However, Luton will do ok this season. They are a close team and know after last season what is required. We’re the same.
Our track record on receiving poor fees in regards of transfers should be noted...no doubt othe clubs see how eager we are to sell...to the point weve got our own motto ...The club who just like giving.....
