A further comment... anyone know what is Patrick's goals to minutes ratio since arriving as he has not had much game time often coming on late and is on the score sheet again?
Apparently scored 3 in 444 mins. If I'm reading it right. But that must not include yesterday. So would be 4 in around 540mins. I bet his chance conversion % is very impressive.
That finish was similar to his first goal last season, against Stoke at home. He ran clear and beat Butland with a superbly placed shot that day, although it was more head on rather than from an angle. It's a sign of a natural goalscorer that he can look up and see a gap to put the ball into rather than just lashing it as hard as possible. Those shots either look like fantastic goals or they hit the keeper/sail over the bar. Schmidt was cool and composed on both occasions and simply stroked the ball in, giving the keeper no chance. His header at Millwall was similar - placement rather than power. I love to see a spectacular goal as much as anyone else but you can't help but admire this kind of finish. He's a proper goalscorer and I think if he was given a run in the team he would soon be heading for double figures. It's going to be hard to manage all the forward options we have though, especially if the new striker comes in this week to add further competition. It seems inevitable that one or two will go and I wouldn't be surprised to see Chaplin back at Pompey (if they can afford him) and Woodrow warming someone's bench on £15k+ a week.
