It's amusing when people compare Joe Root to Virat Kohli and Steve Smith. He's been **** for a while now and needs to sort his game out.
Why when he's continually making rash judgements when taking shots or going for singles? Why is he always caught out by any break in play whilst batting. I've lost count of the number of times he's gotten out after making fifty or after drinks, lunch, tea etc.
Not being as good as Kohli and Smith is hardly a stick to beat him, they are literally the best in the world so if you’re just behind them you’re not doing bad.
Root has a career test average of 48 and averages 42 this year, so is underperforming on career but is still hitting a better average than most. Kohli, from fewer games admittedly, averages 9.5 in test matches this calendar year. I’m not sure they are looking to drop him. Kane Williamson, the other name mentioned when they discuss high class middle order batsmen, averages 32 this year. He doesn’t need dropping. He maybe (probably - his batting has dropped since he took over) needs not to be captain, but who else is there? You couldn’t get Stokes to do it and play all games in all formats.
I think he should be available for Yorkshire. They need to win all three remaining T20 games to qualify for the quarter finals. Tonight they will hopefully have back captain Willey, opener Cadmore and top wicket taker Fisher which should be enough strengthening to beat Durham. But for the last two games later this week they are hoping to have Root and Rashid back (not Bairstow as he's got IPL).
I don't follow county cricket that much but there's got to be someone high up in the averages that could be brought in. I've always thought the England captain should be someone that it wouldn't matter if they lost form. Worst thing they did making Root captain. We ruin all our best players that way.
To be fair, if you look at the names who are the top scorers in county cricket over the last 2/3 seasons you'll recognise them all. They're either currently playing, retired or are Test Match failures. Without checking so I may be slightly wrong (I saw the graphic during the Pakistan Test Matches) the top ten included Cook, Bell, Sibley, Crawley and Ballance. The standard of county cricket is dogger.
JER has been reading the BBS. A couple of good wickets for him. We need to break this partnership though.
