Glad to hear you got out mate. My daughter loves it there and often goes with her cousins to visit. Its a great business they’ve built up over the years.
It was up for a "Farmer's Weekly Diversity" award on the BBC2 farming programme last week. They've diversified from being purely a cattle farm to rearing sheep, pigs, goats, alpacas, llamas, donkeys, horses and also added the farm shop, restaurants, dog restaurants, meerkat pen, reptile house, kids indoor and outdoor play area, tractor rides, sheep grand national, ferret racing etc. They also do Elf workshops and pumpkin carving at the back end of the year. They were up against a dairy farm in Scotland that had struggled to sell milk at a reasonable price so had diversified into making their own yoghurts and cheeses. Guess which Scottish farm won the award! It's not only in football that Barnsley get dodgy refs
Glad you had a good time mate. It is a lovely setting Cannon Hall Park. I love going there, but the last time we visited in July, it was absolutely packed. It was just before the mandatory masks though and we daren't go to the restaurant unfortunately
Your daughter had a kidney transplant! Wow, i can't even imagine how much of an ordeal that must be for everyone involved, especially your daughter. Hope everyone's ok and glad you've been a good gorilla, lol
We were there about 3 weeks ago. BMBC have done some great work at the bottom end near the river. Newly laid paths, benches, work on the river banks. The Geese and ducks don’t go as far up the fields now so you can sit and have your picnic without their droppings around you. It’s less boggy. Made for a very pleasant Saturday afternoon stroll.
The White Bull is a fantastic facility Bossman. Generous portions, very well presented , and offers real value for money. I always find the Staff to be attentive to the customers needs and appear to be extremely cheerful. The opposite is not the case at the Thorncliffe Tasting Room at Emley unfortunately. Miserable as sin, some of the Staff up there. Their attitude always appear that they are doing you a favour just by serving you. I'm always very wary of establishments that have a restaurant and a Deli/Farm shop, since a friend of mine had very serious food poisoning after eating at one such establishment. I would imagine that with produce getting to or near it's best by sell date, there could well be the temptation to pass it to the restaurant staff so they can cook it and serve it up. I have to say, that as far as the White Bull is concerned, I've never harboured any misgivings on that front, as the food served up always looks and tastes extremely fresh. Our little dog loves it when we go and sit in the patio area to have a coffee or a cone, because he suddenly becomes a magnet for all the young kids who are there with their parents/ grandparents, He's such a cute little thing ,that kids and adults alike, can't resist coming up to us asking for our permission to pet him.
I read this reply before I read the comment above it about being a dog cafe. I was a bit worried about what they were serving for a minute.
Totally agree. I used to play a lot of football and cricket at Cawthorne and have watched the farm develop and grow over the years. My 3 kids have always loved going and it just seems to get better and better. Jack (Rob) was a quality wicket keeper and good opener back in the day. I actually married one of my ex-wives at Cannon Hall but that’s best forgotten!
