    Too right Nudge.

We are toothless upfront. Been saying it for ages. Sort that out and we'd be OK.

If we actually scored when dominating ,then it's a different game. We've something to defend, we don't have to push so hard, we increase our confidence, we worry the opposition.

But we won't pay for what we need and we'll suffer.

    Exactly.
We dominated for a long period in the first half.
We dominated Reading for ALL of the first half.
We went in at half time in both games not having scored.
Dominating and not scoring results in a couple of things.
It reduces the confidence of us.
It increases the confidence of them.

Plus being in a losing position makes the other team have to push forward, whiich exposes them more to being damaged by the way we can play by hitting them on the break.

Instead we get to their penalty box and nowt ever happens.

I've asked for a pair of them for my birthday. Plus gloves that stop you getting scratched.

Agree with every fan and every comment that says we desperately need a striker. And a midfielder with a right foot. So much a midfielder with a right foot.

I can't fully agree though that we won't pay for it. It's more like we can't pay for it. And I mean wages not transfer fees. Our top earner is a rumoured £10k a week. The players we're linked with are signing contracts beyond that weekly wage. We can't scoff at Wigan for giving Kieffer £16k a week and than heckle our own refusal not to hand out that kind of money.

Perhaps Struber needs some so he can prune the deadwood out of the team...

I don't suppose we can be told that we can't pay for it. But it's probably true.

Not much point having this spreadsheet approach if it doesn't chuck up some possible diamond finisher though.

We might as well drop a division and call it home.

That’s exactly how I saw it tbh .
Some eager to give opposition too much respect imo because they’ve paid millions for them but they just weren’t in it till we gave them four goals.
If we’d taken Just one of our excellent chances before they score it’s a different game but the goals we conceded weren’t because Chelsea were brilliant and multi million pound players it was because we were too benevolent when in possession .
If Chelsea were brilliant and won on merit I’d hold my hands up but the way we lost was disappointing imo not because we were playing multi million pound players and they were playing like it but because we gifted them .
Ok it’s in the cup and it’s Chelsea etc etc but adding the performances of our last two league games it’s not gonna be long at this rate for our confidence to get shot and chasing games from kick off as last season .

I pointed out the psychological effect.
But you are perfectly right in pointing out how it changes the pattern of play.

They were 6 goals better than us at finishing

4 Goals better than us at not gifting goals away.

But they were hardly any more goals better than us in creating chances.

Saying that - we are a couple of players off a real challenge for promotion.
And if we get into a play off place I would back Gerhard in getting us up.

    In other words.
DIRECTORS .... FFS BRING A COUPLE OF PLAYERS IN !!!!!!

    Yep that’s how I see it .
I’m not blinded by the price tags of their players I’m looking at the game as I saw it .
There were no 78 mil £s finishes from Chelsea they were gift wrapped as early Xmas boxes .
On paper they should have mullered us on the field we created more than these prima donnas .
Second half understandably heads were down and it was damage limitation although we still created a few good chances .
Count the chances we’ve created over our start to the season and they’ll be many .
Score one of those chances and we can defend as Notts f and Boro . Not expecting everyone of our chances to go in and not even every game but miss chances like tonight Luton and Reading which are numerous and young heads will go down AGAIN

    Did we really though?

The best chances in the first half fell to Chelsea. Mount when he somehow hit it wide and in to the side netting and the chance in the first minute that was a super save from Collins.

We had our own chances, but nothing as guilt edged as those two. So on my card we were 2-0 down and they had the two best chances. Doesn't mean we didn't give it a good go that half and play some great football. But other than the Halme header I wasn't really thinking we fluffed our lines at any point (which Chelsea did).

I think our failure to follow up cost us two goals in the first half from Caballero .Sollbauer missed an absolute sitter .
As I said Chelsea failed to score from their own chances and that’s why the million pound tags didn’t shine they missed their own created chances relying on our mistakes Up to 3-0 then their multi millions came into play on our tired and unconfident players .

Cauley forced a good save from their keeper too.

But that isn't one of the best chances of the half though is it? Personally thought the keeper played to the cameras there but was still a good effort. That was my original point though. The best chances still fell to Chelsea in the first half.
